The Alpe d'Huez Grand Domaine Ski Area includes the resorts of Alpe d'Huez, Auris-en-Oisans, Huez-en-Oisans, Oz-en-Oisans, Vaujany, Villard Reculas. On the territory of 10000 hectares there are 249 kilometers of pistes of different levels of difficulty.

The Les Bergers area, where green slopes prevail, is intended for beginners. The elevators Petit Rif Nel, Ecoles 2 and Grenouilles leading here are free of charge. You can also buy a First Ski pass, which allows you to use all the elevators in Alpe d'Huez except Alpauris and Marmottes.

The black slopes for pros lead from the Pic Blanc summit (3,330 meters above sea level). The steepest and most extreme of them is called "Wolf's Throat" - it stretches for 1000 meters at an angle of 40 degrees. There is a tunnel through the glacier, along which there is a route that appeared in one of the James Bond movies.

The Vaujany area (1250 meters above sea level) and the northern slope of Pic Blanc are favorite spots for freeride fans. A fun-park and half-pipe for freestylers are near Lac Blanc (2700 meters above sea level). For those who prefer to ski on flat terrain, there are circular pistes with a total length of about 50 kilometers.

Tips for tourists

In season, free buses run from Alpe d'Huez to neighboring towns. There are four day routes and one night route (running from 18:00 to 22:00).
If you don't plan to ski but want to hike up into the mountains and take in the views, it's worth buying a hiking ski pass (there are options for 1-7 days).
Children under five years of age and elderly people over 72 years of age use the elevators free of charge. Be sure to bring your proof of age with you.

Bars and restaurants are concentrated in Quartier des Jeux. Residence L'Ours Blanc 4* with access to the ice rink and the ski elevator is popular. Quartierdes Vieil Alpe is the quietest corner of the Alpe d'Huez. A good hotel in this part of the resort is the Petit Prince 4*.
