Visiting Cannes and not seeing this famous boulevard—how is that even possible?!
Indulge in a leisurely stroll along the three-kilometer promenade stretching from the old port to the new port. Enjoy views of the mountains and islands, the scent of pine and sea, and of course, the colorful Cannes crowd.
If you’re looking for non-traditional places to see in Cannes, this is definitely the place to go. Experience the cozy, historic part of the city rather than the noisy and flashy Cannes.
This picturesque neighborhood on Chevalier Hill features winding streets, cobbled paths, ancient houses, and charming restaurants, creating a unique, serene atmosphere. You’ll want to linger in one of the tiny cafes with a cup of aromatic coffee, savoring each moment! Then, climb the hill to the medieval castle for magnificent views of Cannes.
This unusual residential building (which also serves as a bus station) will delight cinema lovers of all ages. The facade is adorned with images of various film and animation characters, actors, and other famous figures from the film industry. Can you find your favorite character?
It’s easy to find the house: walk along La Croisette Boulevard towards the hill and castle, and you’ll spot it on a small square right before the ascent.
This small private museum is not easy to access, but it’s worth it. Here, you can fully immerse yourself in the authentic atmosphere of French Provence.
The museum houses a collection related to the history of this famous region: books, national costumes, utensils and furniture, embroidery, and much more. The experience is enhanced by the fact that the museum itself is located in a house once owned by sculptor and founder of the Academy of Provence, Victor Tubbi.
Address: 15 rue Forville
The museum is open only on the first Saturday of each month for half a day.
This luxurious countryside villa once belonged to artist Jean-Gabriel Domergue. It’s definitely worth a visit, though you’ll need a car or taxi to get there—it’s too far to walk.
The picturesque garden, magnificent house designed by the owner himself, and the unique views of the bay from the terrace make it a special visit.
The villa is open for visits only from July to September.
This beautiful church is one of the attractions in Cannes worth seeing.
Although you won’t be able to enter, the building impresses with its delicate, lace-like architecture and exquisite beauty, quite unlike traditional Orthodox churches.
Address: 40 Boulevard Alexandre III
Another gem of Cannes architecture, this baroque chapel is stunning from any angle.
Inside, you’ll find not only traditional baroque stucco work, ornaments, and gilding but also magnificent paintings by Bellini.
Address: 67 Avenue de Vallauris
If you have enough time to explore Cannes, consider investigating the surroundings as well. Spend a day venturing out to these beautiful islands, famous for their nature. It’s a great option for those who want to spend time away from the city, have a picnic, swim, or simply stroll through the forest.
If you’re interested in history, you should visit the fortress and prison where the mysterious Iron Mask once lived, now home to the Maritime Museum (on Sainte-Marguerite Island), or the medieval monastery and fort (on Saint-Honorat Island).
Ferries run from Cannes to the islands every hour to hour and a half, with a round-trip costing around €28. The journey takes about 20 minutes.
We’ll cover this island separately. It’s a completely atmospheric and surprisingly “un-Cannes-like” place. The island is home to the active male monastery, Le Monastère Fortifié, where the monks observe a strict vow of silence (and visitors are expected to do the same!). So, if you’re seeking peace and quiet, this is a must-visit.
You can walk around the entire island in an hour, taking in beautiful sea views along with the old buildings—a church and a chapel—or climb up to the monastery fort and survey the surroundings. Finally, take a dip in the pristine water and bring back some wine or fragrant lavender, which the monks grow themselves.
If you don’t have time for a trip to the islands, don’t worry. In Cannes, just 1.5 km from La Croisette Boulevard, you’ll find a worthy alternative—the urban forest park, Croix-des-Gardes. It has everything you need for a relaxing and nature-immersed experience: shady woods, secluded paths, and air scented with pine, lavender, and sea.
Tip: Be sure to climb to the highest point of Croix-des-Gardes, where there’s a metal cross. From here, you’ll get a breathtaking view of Cannes, the bay, the Lérins Islands, and the Maritime Alps.
