During his meetings with his client, Donovan unwittingly develops sympathy and respect for him. Risking his career and reputation, the lawyer asks the court not to impose the maximum sentence on Abel, but instead to wait for the right moment to use him in negotiations for the release of American prisoners. The film The Room (2003) by the eccentric Tommy Wiseau is considered the benchmark for bad cinema. There are many reasons for this: plot holes, a strange narrative style, and poor acting. Contrary to common sense, the film gained popularity. One of the actors, Greg Sestero, took advantage of this by writing a memoir called The Disaster Artist. American actor and director James Franco adapted the book into a lighthearted and entertaining biopic about how not to make a movie.
The Disaster Artist was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Adapted Screenplay category.
