Ski resorts in Bulgaria

Vitosha

The one time when you don't have to travel far to break into a fun skiing trip. Vitosha Mountain is located in Sofia itself. The skiing area starts right after the bypass road in the suburb of Simeonovo.

How to get to Vitosha?

  • By public transportation: to the mountainous area (up to Aleko) from the bus station "Hladilnika" there is bus number 66. Buses #64 and 107 run to the Bojan Church (the beginning of one of the hiking routes).
  • You can also take the yellow and red metro line from the city center to the "Technical University" station. There you get on bus 123, which takes you directly to the ski elevator.

There are six ski slopes with a total length of 29 km, which are suitable for skiers and snowboarders of any category. There are good conditions for slalom, downhill and even hiking touring in the mountains.

Prices for ski passes in 2026 are as follows

  • 1 pass: adults — €3.5, teenagers and 60+ — €3.07, children (under 12) — €2.05;
  • 4 passes: adults — €11.25, teenagers and 60+ — €9.20, children — €6.65.

The elevators are open daily during the winter season. Gondola elevator "Simeonovo — Aleko" is open from 8:30 and until 16:30 the last elevator. But the elevator "Tulpan Vitoshko 1" works from 9:00 to 16:00. There is a night ride — from 18:30 to 22:00.

Since the resort is located within the city limits, we recommend that you take a walk along Vitosha Boulevard when you are not skiing. This is the pedestrian street of the town, where cafes and restaurants offering local cuisine are located.

Also be sure to stop by the local market, where you can buy some local vinishka, delicious bryndza, spices and sweets as souvenirs. At the same time, you will get a taste of the country's flavor.

There is a joking tradition according to which every Greek who ascends Mount Olympus must bring one stone with him, and every Bulgarian who descends from Mount Olympus must take it away. It is such a Balkan traditional showdown.

Borovets

You have to take your hat off to this resort. It is considered the oldest ski center in the country. It is located on the slopes of Mount Musala. There are 24 ski slopes of any level of difficulty, as well as modern developed infrastructure on the territory of the resort.

How to get to Borovets?

  • First, you get to the town of Samokov. Buses go there daily from the bus station "South" in Sofia. And already in Samokov you take a direct shuttle bus to Borovets.

Prices for ski passes in 2026

In this resort you can try your hand at ski cross or biathlon. Children from 1-5 years old in Borovets will be looked after by animators. Older children can learn to ski in the ski gardens of the Samokov or Rila hotels.

In addition to skiing, Borovets has many restaurants and entertainment centers. And every week the resort organizes a ski carnival called "Descent with Torches"! The action takes place at night and everyone can take part. The spectacle is really top notch.

Snow is usually plentiful, but in case of emergency the resort has 160 snow cannons.

In addition to skiing, you can take a tour of the old town and get lost between the picturesque streets and museum houses. Be sure to stop by the local restaurant, Mechana, for a taste of authentic Bulgarian cuisine.

Pamporovo

This is the southernmost resort in Europe and the sunniest in Bulgaria itself. It is located in the "heart" of the Rhodope Mountains, at the foot of the Snezhanka peak. In Pamporovo there are 8 ski slopes with a total length of 17.5 km. Each of the slopes is equipped with a modern system of elevators, as well as snow cannons.

There are slopes both for beginner skiers and for masters of their craft.

How to get there?

There are direct buses to Pamporovo from the central bus station in Sofia. And from the resort itself there is a shuttle bus to the elevators, or a private shuttle from the hotel.

In addition to skiing in Pamporovo there are many cafes and restaurants. We recommend you to try such national dishes as "Rodopska Banitsa", "Kavarma Kebab" and "Cheverme". And for lovers of excursions and antiquities, there is the old town of Chepelare, Smolyan, as well as the ancient city center — Plovdiv.

By the way, Pamporovo wants more and has recently merged with the neighboring resort of Chepelare. A shuttle bus now runs between them, and there is a single ski pass for the whole area.
