City of Fez

Fez, also spelled Fez, was the first capital of Morocco and still preserves much of its history in traditional crafts and important landmarks. The old part of the city, known as Fes el Bali, is a UNESCO site.

Throughout the city are mosques and palaces, museums and quiet gardens where you can relax after a busy day of sightseeing. Also in Fez you'll find the frenetic souks for which Morocco is famous, selling everything from copper to leather goods.

Fes is also known for its traditional leather industry, which reaches back to medieval times. The largest and most famous among the local hide harvesting cells is the Chouara factory. Visitors here can see many stone vats filled with all sorts of natural dyes and liquids involved in the process. This industry not only helps preserve the cultural heritage of the city, but is also becoming a popular tourist attraction.

The City of Meknes

"The City of a Hundred Minarets" is one of the imperial cities of Morocco, which houses many historical monuments - such as Bab Mansour - the largest gate in North Africa, the Royal Granary, the large Dar Jamai Museum, the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, the Christian Slave Prison and other Moroccan landmarks.

The city has a peaceful and carefree atmosphere, with beautiful gardens everywhere and jugglers, fortune tellers, snake charmers and fakirs demonstrating their talents in the main square.

Hassan II Mosque

In 1980, King Hassan II of Morocco announced the construction of the largest mosque in the world. The Hassan II Mosque was erected in the big city of Casablanca and stands right on the water, or more precisely on a platform located in the sea. Through the strong glass floor of the mosque you can admire the sea waves.

The structure has become a striking example and a true masterpiece of Moroccan architectural art. It is compared to a pearl, which, once in the hands of a jeweler, becomes more expensive and elegant. The large size of the building plays in the rays of the sun, shimmering and changing colors. Polished stone, rich colored marble, mosaics, inscriptions in the finest Arabic script, luxurious paintings, carvings - all the traditions of Arab and Moroccan architecture are harmoniously woven into the building.

Mohkomo du Pacha

This beautiful palace in Casablanca owns sixty rooms and an amazing finish of wooden carvings, mosaics and forges.

However, this beautiful structure is not an ancient palace of the royal dynasty, but a municipal building built between 1948 and 1952.

City of Chefchaouen

The sleepy town of Chefchaouen, nestled in the Er Rif Mountains, will provide a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of the country's major cities. Founded in the 15th century, the town served as a refuge for Muslims and Jews during the Spanish Reconquista, and then again for Jews fleeing Nazi rule during World War II. Today it is famous for its bohemian atmosphere and the beauty of its cobblestone streets, which is breathtaking. The houses are painted a hundred shades of blue, and distant mountain peaks can often be seen between them.

It is also a popular destination for shopping, with many ethnic souvenirs and handicrafts that cannot be found anywhere else in Morocco. For example, wooden utensils or wool blankets. Local goat cheese is also in demand.

Djemaa el Fna Square

Djemaa el Fna is a huge central square located in the center of the medina, a place that is considered the beating heart of Marrakech.

During the day it is a popular meeting place, with a huge number of snack stalls and street vendors, but at dusk it turns into an entertainers' paradise, with jugglers, musicians and snake charmers. Snack trays are replaced by stalls offering heartier fare, and the square fills with tantalizing aromas and smoke from hundreds of bonfires.

El-Badi Palace

In the Medina, the old part of Marrakech, behind a huge wall is the El Badi Palace, built between 1578 and 1603, an incomparable example of Maghreb architecture, a "miracle of miracles", a model of architectural balance praised by poets.

There is evidence that the palace was fabulously good, not for nothing its name translates as "matchless". Its walls were decorated with gold, turquoise, crystal, rare types of Italian marble, Irish granite, Indian onyx, precious woods. Surprisingly, the palace had a central heating system, even though it was the 16th century. The builders were paid generously: annually each was given gold by the live weight of the builder himself.

Volubilis

Morocco's most unexpected attraction is the ruins of the ancient Roman city of Volubilis, an island of ancient culture in northern Africa.

Almost 2000 years ago, the ruins were the site of a forum and the Capitol, the inhabitants were protected from nomadic raids by a two-meter high fortress wall and 40 bastions, and olive groves and vineyards grew all around. The first people settled on these fertile lands in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains in the Neolithic era, later lived here Phoenicians and Berbers.

Today, the only inhabitants of Volubilis are storks, which nest here every spring on high columns.

Legir Beach

Legzir beach is located in the settlement of the same name, on the southwest coast of Morocco.

It is always crowded, and the picturesque coastline stretches along the Atlantic Ocean for almost a kilometer. The beach of Legzira is famous for its amazing landscape - clay-sand arches, formed over thousands of years by sea currents, tides and currents. In the rays of sunset these stone cliffs acquire a bright orange color.

Bahia Palace

Built in the late 19th century, the Bahia Palace is the most popular tourist attraction in Marrakech. The interior of the palace impresses with traditional Arabian luxury. Here you can see colorful mosaics, carved wooden ceilings and doors, hand-painted murals, artistic furnishings and works of painting.

Courtyards with fountains and numerous rooms with secret passages are arranged in a bizarre sequence throughout the palace complex, resembling a real labyrinth. The palace has been attacked and robbed several times, so most of its original interiors have not survived.

Menara Gardens

What to visit in Morocco for a relaxing vacation in nature? The first thing to recommend is the Menara Gardens, a famous park in Marrakech.

Spread at the foot of the Atlas Mountains, the gardens are an olive grove of 30,000 olive trees framing an artificial lake. The intimate gardens were laid out in the distant 13th century in such a way that all their corners offer a surprisingly beautiful view of the mountains, and it is no wonder that the Menara Gardens are often a favorite subject in tourist photos.

Erg Chebbi

The large sand massif of Erg Chebbi, 40 kilometers from Erfoud, is one of Morocco's famous landmarks. The sand dunes with a total area of more than 100 square kilometers, being in constant motion, create a unique changeable landscape. The height of some dunes exceeds 150 meters.

The most popular type of Erg Shebbi tourist trip is the camel ride, during which tourists have a unique opportunity to spend a few nights in real Berber tents and taste their national dishes.

Grottoes of Hercules

This is a cave complex surrounded by interesting myths. It is said that it was once visited by one of the most famous heroes of Roman mythology.

According to legend, this is where Hercules slept before stealing three golden apples from the garden of Hesperides. Another story says that the cave is the end of a 24 km long tunnel connecting Morocco and Spain.

Whatever the case, the place is definitely worth a visit, thanks to its harmonious combination of luxurious cliffs and playful waves.

Todra Gorge

This place can be described as a magical testimony to the might of nature. This striking gorge boasts high cliffs that have been carved by the Todra River over thousands of years and reach up to 300 meters in height, creating a striking and breathtaking landscape.

Here you will have a view of the crystal clear river flowing through a narrow canyon and surrounded by vertical rock walls that change color depending on the sunlight. The sheer cliffs attract climbers from all over the world who come to test their skills and conquer challenging routes.

Essaouira

If you come to Morocco with the aim of lounging in the country's seductive resorts, we recommend you to pay attention to Essaouira - a famous resort city on the Atlantic coast.

This place is characterized by a mild climate and light warm winds. The port of Essaouira was once the center of fishing, especially valued sardines caught here. Although the port's role is now less important, fishing boats can still be seen in the coastal waters and the town recommends fried sardines.
