Statue of Liberty (New York)
Probably the most consistent association that first comes to mind when mentioning US landmarks and one of the world's most famous symbols of the country, the Statue of Liberty is located on a small island in New York Harbor.
The majestic sculpture of a woman with a torch in her hand reaching into the sky has come to epitomize America's freedom. The crown on her head has seven rays, signifying the seven continents and seven oceans. In her other hand she holds a plate with the date of the Declaration of Independence embossed on it.
The monument was made by French craftsmen at the request of the U.S. government and transported to the island in pieces. The Statue of Liberty is not only a symbol, but also a functioning lighthouse in New York Harbor. The height of the statue from the beginning of the pedestal to the top of the torch is 93 meters. The figure is made of copper plates mounted on a steel frame. Inside there is a Museum of the Settlement of America, reflecting the historical path of the country, as well as spiral staircases leading to the very top, from where you can see the entire harbor.
