Calouste Gulbenkian Museum

A rare case where a private collection can rival the best state museums. Founded on the collection of a wealthy oil magnate, the museum is a real treasure trove. Paintings by world-renowned masters (Rembrandt, Rubens, van Dyck, Gainsborough, Renoir, Monet), ancient artifacts from Egypt and Mesopotamia, and ancient jewelry, some of which are hundreds or even thousands of years old – there's something here for everyone to admire for hours.

Marionette Museum

If you get tired of the abundance of art treasures, it's worth checking out the Lisbon Marionette Museum — the only museum in the country dedicated to dolls and puppet theater. It's a place where you can transport yourself back to childhood! The museum houses dolls from different countries and eras: Vietnamese, Portuguese, from Thailand, India, and even Africa.

Some exhibits "entertained" the public back in the Middle Ages. After viewing the collection, you can craft your own doll in the workshop available for visitors, or learn to operate existing ones.

Ticket Price: €7.50.

Museum of Costume and Fashion

To immerse yourself in the lifestyle of the Portuguese (and not only them) from different eras, visit the Museum of Costume and Fashion. Why lifestyle, you ask? Because here you will find not only an impressive collection of clothing (men's, women's, and children's) but also home textiles, household items, accessories, and much more that made up people's lives centuries ago.

Magnificent dresses from the 17th-18th centuries embroidered with gold, dresses and suits from the 20th century, children's clothing and toys — you can wander through the museum halls endlessly! And you can end your tour in the botanical park surrounding the museum.

Ticket Price: €7.

Museu Nacional do Azulejo

First, let's clarify: azulejos are glazed ceramic tiles, decorated and covered with a glaze (similar to faience). This is a traditional decorative material in Portugal and Spain, which came from the Arab countries. Today, for example, azulejos decorate the Portuguese President's palace and the exhibition hall of the National Coach Museum. The museum is worth a visit because there are simply no other places like it — azulejos are only produced in Portugal and Spain.

Basílica of Santa Engracia Church

This temple catches your eye at first glance: a white building in the Baroque style, crowned with a dome, against the backdrop of terracotta roofs and blue skies — the view is simply stunning! The church is famous for having been under construction for almost 300 years, with interruptions, and the dome towers remain unfinished even today. Its main feature is the magnificent view from the dome's observation deck.

The Palace of Mafra

Another gem of Lisbon is the Mafra Palace. Although it's located in the suburbs, it's worth the trip. The palace is the largest in the country (its area is equal to ten football fields!), but it's not just the size that attracts tourists. The magnificent interiors of the former royal residence, the elegant exterior of the palace, and, of course, the famous bell towers with a hundred bells.

Quinta da Regaleira

This estate with a whimsical palace and park is also located in the outskirts of Lisbon. But it's worth the journey. This magical castle (there's no other way to describe it!) was built according to the plan of its owner, millionaire Antonio Monteiro, in 1910. The building is designed in the Gothic and Renaissance styles, surrounded by a lush garden with winding paths, and at its center hides the mysterious Initiation Well.

The Cathedral of Saint Mary Major (Sé de Lisboa)

Also known as Santa Maria Maior de Lisboa. This cathedral is remarkable not only for being the oldest in the city but also for standing on the remains of former religious buildings — a Roman temple later rebuilt into a church, then replaced by a mosque, which stood here until the 13th century.

This amazing place is definitely worth a visit, as the cathedral is a living embodiment of the city's history.

Entrance: Free, except for the Gothic cloister which requires a fee to visit.

25th of April Bridge

One of the twenty longest suspension bridges in the world connects Lisbon and Almada. From the shore, you can enjoy a magnificent panorama of the city, and if you want a view from the water, take bus number 753 from Marquês de Pombal Square, and enjoy a breezy ride across the bridge.

Rossio Square

The best place to enjoy the evening and night views of Lisbon is Rossio Square.

One of the main squares of the capital has a truly magical look in the light of the lamps: with a wave pattern made of two-colored cobblestones, with magnificent bronze fountains, Rossio Square has its own unique atmosphere.

Glória Funicular

Feel like a true Lisbon local from the 20th century by riding the historic Glória Funicular. This charming yellow tram (which has been running since 1885!) will take you leisurely from Restauradores Square to the city center, while you enjoy the streets of the city passing by the windows.

Ticket Price: €2.

Tip: The funicular makes only two stops — at the beginning and at the end of the route, at the top of the hill, where a great view of the city awaits.
