What is worth knowing about the beaches of Málaga?

  • In the city of Málaga belong to 16 beaches (that's almost 14 km. of coastline). In length, the beaches of Malaga are inferior only to Esteponi and Marbella. All beach areas are located within the city limits and the traffic to them is very convenient. In addition, they have a developed infrastructure and are equipped approximately the same.
  • All beach areas of the municipality are very clean and safe. This applies to both nature and orderliness. Everything has been done here so that the beach vacation can be enjoyed by everyone, including families arriving on vacation in Spain with children, and people with disabilities, and just coming to Spain for the first time.
  • If we talk about the natural-climatic conditions of beach vacation in Malaga, we can say about: clean and warm water, very colorful dark sand, beautiful weather (the coast is protected by mountains from the northern winds, so storms that could spoil the beach vacation, there is almost no)
  • Malaga is characterized by a small amount of precipitation. In the intervals can be weeks of dry and sunny weather. The sea, unlike Costa Calida and Costa Blanca, does not warm up much: the average water temperature in summer is +23.5°C.
  • The best time of year to visit Málaga is from early May to late July and from early September to mid-October. During this period it is convenient to swim, spend a lot of time in the air, do sports and active recreation.

Playa de Malagueta

The city's main beach, with its sand and gradual entrance to the sea, will be your most frequent stop on hot days if you come to Málaga for beach relaxation. Malagueta Beach is one of the most famous and beautiful city beaches in Spain, and should definitely not be missed during your trip.

Malagueta Beach is covered in fine sand with occasional light gray pebbles and boasts a very gentle entrance to the sea, which remains calm for most of the year.

Along the length of the beach is a busy street with dozens of restaurants and bars, as well as a wide promenade pedestrianized and shaded by palm trees. There are also a few small restaurants right on the beach, and of course there are free toilets and showers.

You can also take advantage of sun lounger and umbrella rentals.

Playa de la Misericordia

At over 2 kilometers long, Misericordia beach is the longest beach in Málaga. Unlike Malagueta, which is popular with tourists, Misericordia is particularly popular with locals, mainly because this beach is close to large residential areas and a little further away from the historic center.

The beach is covered with fine silty sand and the entrance to the water is gradual. It is not as wide as the more famous Playa de la Malagueta, but thanks to its length there is always enough space.

Every few meters you will come across beach bistros, bars or restaurants, and of course there are loungers and parasols for rent. A long pedestrian promenade lined with palm trees stretches all along Misericordia beach and the smaller beaches nearby.

Playa del Campo de Golf

It can be considered the first, geographically speaking, beach of Málaga. It is located on the border with the municipality of Torremolinos and next to a large golf course. The area is quite wide and long. The sand here is dark in color, the entrance to the water is gentle, and the water is quite clean, which makes the beach especially attractive.

The beach has everything you need to enjoy a relaxing vacation by the sea, but the occupancy rate of Playa del Campo de Golf is quite low, even in season. Probably this is due to the fact that a certain part of it is favored by tourists practicing nudism.

In addition, San Julian is a favorite place for kite surfers. In the morning you can see a large number of sails here.

Playa La Colletta

This beach is also popular with locals and tourists. This sandy beauty is quite large (1000 meters by 20 meters). It is located just a few minutes walk from the historic center of the city.

It is always noisy and crowded. The infrastructure is incredibly developed. On the Pablo Picasso promenade you can rent a bicycle, do fitness. On Playa La Caleta you can play volleyball or soccer, which is incredibly popular in Spain.

Near the beach is a park of archaeological excavations, one of the most important in Andalusia. In recent years, Playa de la Araña has been gaining popularity, because it is possible to relax and swim here with dogs. It also attracts remoteness from the center, privacy and freedom.
