This list would be incomplete without one of the main natural treasures of our country - the Carpathians! The majestic mountains are very diverse, their landscapes differ from region to region: the Montenegrin range you will recognize by the two-thousand-meter mountains, among which are Hoverla, Petros and Pip Ivan, the Marmaros are notable for their alpine meadows, rocky ridges and glades dotted with rhododendron, and the Gorgany with its scatterings of stones covered with yellow-green moss, you will not confuse with anything. The Carpathians are extremely rich in resorts and curious places, as we have already written about many times before. Here are a few articles that will help you learn more about the beauties of this region:
An hour's drive from Kharkiv is a very interesting attraction, which locals call "Sugar Castle" - the palace and park complex of Kenig of the early XIX century.
The snow-white palace in the Gothic style has long beckoned photographers, connoisseurs of unique architecture and simple romantics. The latter especially like the legend of this place. Thus, it is said that the arboretum was built by a sugar refiner for his wife. Even in winter, flowers grew in the park for the luxurious woman. Once she fell ill with consumption and went to the sea for treatment, where she had an affair with an officer. Her husband found out about the betrayal of his wife and, so that she would never forget about her grave sin, installed a 6-ton boulder in the garden. Walking around the old manor, you can see this stone. Locals believe that it fulfills a wish if you touch it and think about what you want more than anything else in the world. There is also an old-timer on the territory of the manor - a 600-year-old oak tree. He is the only one who knows what really happened here.
There is a bus from Kharkiv from the bus station #2 (Suzdal rows). Check the schedule.
In the XVIII century near the village of Berestovets were discovered mines of a rare igneous rock - basalt. The peculiarity was that the basalt pillars were located on a flat area, although by nature it is a mountainous rock. Nowadays Basalt Pillars have become a geological preserve open for tourists.
You should come to these places to see and photograph this unusual natural phenomenon with your own eyes, enjoy the picturesque landscape, and bathe in the emerald lake formed on the site of the quarry. We told you how to get to this natural attraction here.
This romantic place is located 20-30 minutes from the city of Rivne, near the village of Klevan. The unusual tunnel consists of an ornate tangle of trees and bushes over a section of railroad track between the villages of Klevan and Orzhev.
Earlier this track led to a military unit and to cover it from unnecessary eyes, trees were planted along the road, which made such a picturesque arch. Interestingly, trains still sometimes run here, so the tunnel retains its shape: a passing train breaks the branches and thus maintains the appearance of this 4-kilometer arch.
How to get there and what legends go about this place - read in this material.
This small but extremely picturesque village will certainly appeal to those who dream of silence, peace and unlimited beauty. The place is located on the precipice of the Desna River amidst an atmospheric forest. Mezin is called Ukrainian Switzerland and, having been there, you will immediately understand why.
There are also about 50 archaeological monuments on the territory of this reserve, including the settlements of ancient Cro-Magnons of the late Paleolithic era. There is no entertainment in Mezina, so there are few people. And this, agree, is a huge plus.
By car on the highway Chernigiv - Novgorod-Siversky. From Chernigiv to Korop you can get by bus from bus station No. 1, from Korop to Mezin - by bus or cab.
Kamennoe Selo is one of the most mysterious places in Zhytomyr region and our local Stonehenge. In fact, it is a scatter of large stone blocks in the forest, which has the status of a geological preserve. The main mystery is that the origin of these stone blocks and how they came to Zhytomyr region scientists still do not know. According to one version, the blocks were brought here by a glacier, according to another - they are the remains of rocks that used to be here.
Baturyn Fortress Citadel was built in... 2009. Bakota is located 50 kilometers from Kamyanets-Podilskyi on the territory of the National Nature Park "Podolskie Tovtry". Once Bakota was a full-fledged village, but it has long since disappeared from the map: due to the construction of the Dniester hydroelectric project, the village was flooded.
And in the even more distant past, the village suffered from Mongol raids, during one of them the Bakota castle was destroyed. In general, the history of the area is very dramatic. But tourists come here primarily for the amazing natural beauty. Here are such views that you want to photograph absolutely everything. You can examine the surroundings in detail during an excursion on a motorboat. Also on the territory it is allowed to camp and fish.
By bus from the bus station of Kamianets-Podilskyi, you can also take a minibus. The direction is Stara Ushytsya, to the village of Hrushki. The driver will tell you where to get off. Just explain that you need a rock monastery, because Bakota is quite big. You can leave on the way back at 17:00. From the bus station you can get there by cab.
A piece of Portugal in Berdychiv? Yes, it happens! The main attraction of Berdychiv is very reminiscent of the architectural traditions of this country on the edge of the continent. The Barefoot Carmelite Monastery is very similar to one of the most beautiful temples of Lisbon - São Domingos of the XIIV century.
It is an amazing place, which is both a fortress and a monastery. The monastery was built in the XVI century and belonged to the Count Tyszkiewicz family. In the XVII century the heir of the family Janusz Tyszkiewicz in gratitude for the miraculous rescue from the Tatars presented a part of the castle to the Catholic Order of Discalced Carmelites and financially helped them to build the monastery.
By car you should drive along the highway M21 to Berdichiv and through the city to the Cathedral Square. Or you can get there by bus Kyiv - Berdichiv from the bus station.
You can book a hotel in Berdychiv with a discount of up to -65% on the website.
This amazing place reminds something of canyons in North America - the same bizarre rocks, granite-basalt boulders, green forests and fast waters. The canyon is unique for Europe: its area is 250 hectares, and the height of the rocks is 40-50 meters. Locals call the location Devil's Valley. And it is really a damn beautiful place for weekend camping trips.
By train or bus to Voznesensk. From Mykolaiv, Odesa, Vinnitsia and Kyiv you can get by bus. Then by shuttle bus to Trikraty (30-40 minutes) or by cab directly to the canyon.
We also rent points by the sea. Among our favorites is Kinburn Spit. It is a beautiful wild place on the watershed of the Dnipro-Bug estuary and the Black Sea. White sands, unique microclimate and a meeting place for hundreds of exotic birds - is it not paradise?
Vacation on the wild sea is always special. And, if you get high on camping, adore nature and are always in search of powerful energy, come! Fantastic sunsets on Kinburn Spit are cooler than Hollywood movies. Inquisitive travelers will be happy to see a local attraction - the ruins of the Turkish fortress Kinburn XV century.
"Rocket" from Mykolaiv, Kherson, Nova Kakhovka, which arrive at the pier Nibulon, closer to the edge of the spit. From Ochakov by barcas to the village of Pokrovskoye. By ground shuttle buses off-road. It is actual, if weather conditions do not allow to sail by barque or rocket.
The pride of our country and one of the seven natural wonders of Ukraine! Askania Nova is 33 hectares of protected area, 11 of which have not been cultivated by man. More than 1000 species of various plants grow here, including red-listed ones - from rare Scythian tulips to steppe almonds. From May to June you can see the blooming of the only in Europe array of virgin grassland steppes.
But, of course, it is much more interesting to look at the local fauna - here you can meet Przewalski's horses, deer, fallow deer, buffalo, zebras and other animals, which you will not see in such quantity anywhere else in Ukraine. For birdwatchers the best time to visit the reserve is May - it is in late spring when the maximum number of birds flies here. It is breathtaking to see it all in person!
To see this miracle of nature with your own eyes, it is not necessary to go to Australia or Senegal, where there are also pink lakes. It will be much easier to get to the Kherson region, where there are two such lakes - Henicheskoye and Lemurian, which are part of the system of salty bays Sivash.
Lemurian lake is called our "Dead Sea" as the concentration of salt in its water is approximately 300 grams per liter, as in the real Dead Sea. Henicheskoe pink lake is located on the place where there used to be a salt industry, and in the old days the famous Milky Way started from here.
To get to the lakes is not very easy and the easiest way is to do it by car, we told about it in detail in this article.
This picturesque place is located on the coast of the Azov Sea near Kyrylivka and, in fact, it is not such an island, but a real spit. It was an island until 1929, when it had no connection with the land.
If you have long wanted to escape from civilization and feel like a Robinson, then Byriuchyi Island is just the perfect place for it. Here it is quite possible to meet deer, fallow deer, raccoon dogs, rare species of birds and many other representatives of fauna. The whole point is that in the 90s they were brought here from Askania-Nova and since then the wildlife has taken root here and feels very well.
"Vylkove - Ukrainian Venice" - the expression about Vilkovo heard, perhaps, everyone. Let's be honest, Vylkove and Venice have a little in common. Not much at all. Nevertheless, this does not cancel the fact that it is an extremely picturesque town in Odesa region, which is worthy of your attention.
The main feature of the city is that it is built on the water: instead of streets there are canals (rivers), and instead of cars - motor boats. Every family has a boat - it is a common thing and the most popular transportation in these parts. There are wooden bridges across the canals, which turn into "drawbridges" if necessary, if there is a cargo going down the canal. There are 46 km of canals, 72 islands and 1.5 thousand boats in the whole Vylkove.
From Odesa, Izmail and Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi you can get to Vylkove by bus or marshrutka. The distance from Odesa is 210 km, the approximate travel time is 3.5 hours. You can also take a direct bus from Kyiv, but we wouldn't recommend this option - it's too tiring.
Kamianets-Podilskyi is a very beautiful town and one of the most popular destinations for weekend trips in Ukraine, but its main highlight is, of course, the fortress. The history of this majestic fortress dates back to the times of Kievan Rus'. Initially it was wooden, but in the XVI century the fortifications and walls were replaced by stone ones. Nowadays the castle is a powerful stone construction with twelve big towers and ancient relics inside.
It will be interesting for both adults and children: you can immerse yourself in the atmosphere of an ancient fairy tale, shoot archery, make your own cup, taste bread baked in a clay oven according to ancient recipes and, of course, take cool photos.
From Kyiv it is most convenient to go by train #177 Kyiv - Kamianets-Podilskyi and #102 Kyiv-Khmelnitskyi. In Kamianets-Podilskyi itself you should take bus No. 1 from the stop "Central Market" to the stop "Vidrovets Descent". The second option is to take bus No. 7 from the railway station to the stop "Gogol Street".
You can book a hotel in Kamianets-Podilskyi with a discount of up to -65% on the website.
Shatsky Lakes is one of the largest lake groups in Europe, which includes 24 lakes. In 1983 the Shatsky National Nature Park with the area of 32.5 hectares was created here and recreation centers, sanatoriums and children's camps began to appear on its territory like mushrooms after rain.
The deepest of the lakes is Svitiaz. Imagine, it is even deeper than the Sea of Azov: the maximum depth of the Azov Sea is 14 meters, and Svitiaz - as much as 58 meters. Moreover, the water here is so transparent that the bottom can be seen even at a depth of 8 meters. Around the lakes you can ride a bicycle, rent a boat or kayak and go to explore the local waters or just walk in the neighborhood, enjoying the purest pine air and picking berries. Great places for a digital detox!
From any other part of the country you can get to Shatsky Lakes by train. First of all, you will need to go to Kovel, and from Kovel you will need to take a shuttle bus to Shatsky Lakes.

These are, for example, trains from Ternopil to Zaleshchykyi and Husyatin, as well as the train in the direction of Kyiv-Rakhiv.

In the Ternopil region there is a seemingly ordinary town - Zalishchyky, but when you look at it from a height you realize how beautiful it really is. The whole point is that the village is located literally in the banks of the Dniester and it looks impressive. You can get to Zalishchyky by trains: Kyiv - Lviv, Kyiv - Uzhgorod, Kyiv - Rakhiv, as well as by direct buses from Ternopil, Kolomyia, Yaremche, Khmelnytskyi and Rakhiv. You will have to walk to the center of Khreshchatyk village and turn left. In Zalishchyky itself you will find magnificent views and ancient architecture.
"Synevyr" is the business card of the Ukrainian Carpathians, the largest and deepest mountain lake in Ukraine. It is an unreal place of power, which, for a minute, is 10,000 years old. Crystal water, majestic forest around it strikes the heart.
Tour guides usually tell that the lake was formed by the tears of the Count's daughter, the beautiful Sini, who was bitterly mourning her lover, a simple shepherd, Vir, who was killed by her father's order. In the middle of the lake you can still see the top of the stone, which, according to legend, crushed the boy. However, scientists believe that the lake was formed as a result of an earthquake. Stony rocks blocked the path of the stream and the basin was filled with water from several mountain springs. That's the way it is. But no one forbids to honor Sini and Vira. Their wood-carved figures act as some kind of guarantors of eternal love.
In foggy weather, the lake looks mesmerizing.
The most convenient way to get there is by car along the highway Kyiv-Uzhgorod. In the area of Lower Gate you need to turn to the highway Volovets - Mezhyhirya. Then head to the village Sinevirskaya Polyana, from there to the lake a couple of kilometers.
You can also get by train Kyiv-Uzhgorod to Volovets station. From the station you should take a shuttle or a bus to Mezhyhirya village. From Mezhyhirya to the lake is 9 kilometers. You can get to Sinevirskaya Polyana station from Mezhyhirya by shuttle bus, which runs once a day, or by cab.
It is very strange that Vyzhnytsia is not yet lined with inquisitive travelers. This region is ideal for hiking and can become a mecca of green tourism. If you are going on a trip along the "Horseshoe" from Kyiv, it is best to combine this trip with a visit to Lviv. It will be a great weekend.
The castle was built in the XVII century and during its existence it was a fortress, a royal residence, a bar manor, a prison, and an educational institution. Now it is a museum-reserve, and there are three museums on the territory of the complex.
Entrance to each museum is paid separately.
From Lviv from Lichakivska Street take a shuttle bus to Zolochev or take an electric train to the station called "Pidzamche" or to the main station.
In Ukraine there are man-made analogs of the world's famous sights: for example, the castle in the village of Pidhirtsi is often compared to the luxurious Versailles. All because its architectural elegance is not inferior to the best palaces of the Renaissance. Come and take a tour, very informative.
By car or by bus. From Lviv bus station #2 (on Bogdan Khmelnitsky Street) there is a shuttle bus to Brod. Ask to stop in Zahirtsi and then walk up to the castle (it's hard to miss it).
The castle on a high hill in the village of Olesko is one of the smallest in size, but one of the most well-maintained castles in Ukraine. This building is more than six centuries old, and the atmosphere of the past is clearly felt here. Inside there is an exposition of the Lviv Art Gallery. In addition to canvases, you can see interesting wooden sculptures, they are placed both inside and in the park around the castle. Be sure to walk around the territory and admire the gorgeous panorama.

This Mukachevo landmark you'll notice before you even reach the city. The Mukachevo Castle rises majestically on a 70-meter hill, which, according to legend, was once an active volcano and fell asleep several thousand years ago. In the old days, the fortress guarded the Zakarpattia borders of Kievan Rus'. Remarkably, it was very effective: Palanok Castle is one of the five European fortresses that have never been taken by storm
