Old Town

Strolling through the streets of the Old Town of Košice, you can feel the breath of centuries and enjoy the authentic atmosphere. The main street stretches for several kilometers. It fascinates with its architecture reflecting different historical periods. Here you can find buildings built in the style of Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Classicism.

In addition to architectural masterpieces, Main Street is famous for its cozy cafes, stores and craft workshops. Be it winter snowfall, spring greenery, summer sunny day or bright fall colors.

St. Elizabeth Cathedral

The Cathedral of St. Elizabeth or Jelizajský Cathedral is located in the center of the city, dates back to the 13th century and today is the main symbol of faith and spirituality of the citizens of the city. The facades have tall towers, complemented by arches and other architectural compositions. Inside there are altars, chapels, numerous carved wooden elements.

Of special architectural value is the altar of the cathedral - a masterpiece of art of the XV century. The image is made in the form of a triptych, which uniquely shows 12 pictures of the cycle "The Life of St. Elizabeth" during weekdays, the cycle of the Passion of Christ opens during Lent and the Christmas cycle during Advent.

Jakubov Palace

Locals jokingly call Jakubov Palace the miller's palace because of the miller's pond that was located here for a long time. In fact, it was the home of a wealthy resident of Košice. This house, built in the Gothic style and outwardly really resembling a royal residence.

Unfortunately, tourists are not allowed inside the palace, because after the death of the owner it is used for important events. However, you can take very good photos near the building.

Next to Yakubov Palace is the Grekova Park, a quiet and green oasis in the center of the city.

Musical fountains

The musical fountains located in front of the city theater in Košice are especially striking in the evening, when the illumination of the jets is accompanied by music. The fountains were opened on May 1, 1985. The peculiarity of these water structures is that the lighting and music are synchronized, creating a magical spectacle.

It is a beautiful place to relax, enjoy the cool evening and take photos as a keepsake.

Plague Pillar

The 14-meter high column is erected at the place where executions used to be carried out and stands here in memory of the victims of the plague epidemic.

The Plague Pillar of the Immaculate Virgin Mary was erected by the masters Tornisi and Grimming. It was opened in 1723. Since then, the Plague Pillar has been restored several times in the 18th century, as well as at the beginning of the 20th century and after the Second World War.

Mikluszewa Prison

In the 15th century, two Gothic-style houses were built in Košice, which were later combined and turned into a pottery workshop. In the 17th century, after a new reconstruction, these houses were turned into a place of detention for prisoners. in addition to cells and guard rooms, there was even a torture room inside.

After the last reconstruction, Mikluszewa Prison became part of the museum complex, which now houses the exhibition "Medieval Košice", dedicated to medieval criminal law and justice, the history of the town, crafts and trade.

Botanical Garden

The Botanical Garden in Košice offers visitors an amazing immersion into the world of Slovak fauna. Amidst the verdant landscapes, you are surrounded by thousands of flowers and aromas that simply make you forget about everyday worries and relax from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Built in the 18th century, the Church of St. Anthony of Padua surprises with its architectural beauty and exquisite details. The facade of the building is decorated with magnificent sculptures and carved elements that give it a unique charm.

Inside the temple, the altar, which is a true work of art, attracts special attention. Decorated with carved details and gilding, it admires its beauty. Next to the altar there are stained glass windows that create a unique play of colors. The church serves as a place of worship and spiritual strength for many believers.

Opera House

The Opera House in Košice is a state theater and one of the most beautiful representatives of such structures. The building of the theater was erected in 1899 in the then popular neo-Baroque style. Externally, it is lavishly decorated with sculptural compositions, columns, painted in light sandy tones.

The Košice Opera House hosts mainly dramatic productions and comedies: plays, ballet and opera.

Andrassy Palace

Andrassy Palace is a magical story in which legends, grandeur of architecture and unique charm of ancient times are intertwined. The palace was built in the late 19th century for the honorable Andrassy family of the city. It served as a residence for the family most influential in the area.

The beautiful architecture of the palace continues in its interior. Upon entering the building, you can see the ancient marble staircase and luxurious halls. One of the most impressive is the Fairy Hall, which is famous for its stunning frescoes and crystal chandeliers.
