The Hague is the second most populous and largest city in the Netherlands. It is the political center of the country. It is the seat of the Dutch government and the Dutch parliament, as well as the royal court. It is in The Hague that Queen Beatrice lives. Due to this fact, the city has received the name "the royal city by the sea".
It is true, the delightful landscape of the North Sea, on the shore of which is located The Hague, will appeal to any tourist and will definitely leave unforgettable impressions.
But this city is not at all like the governmental heart of the country. The Hague, which is considered one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands and Europe, retains the atmosphere of the past.
In the royal city by the sea, as well as in the whole of Holland, a large number of buildings in the Renaissance style of the XVII century have been preserved. In addition, the city has a lot of architectural heritage of the XVIII century - houses in classical and baroque style. In the neighborhood you can also see cute little houses of the XIX century in the Art Nouveau style. It is only in the last 10 years that modern style buildings have started to be built here.
