Aheloy begins its history in the distant times of the Roman Empire. It was on this place that the Romans founded their fortress Chim. The ancient Greeks, who replaced the Romans, somewhat expanded the settlement and called it Chimos. Until 1960, the village was named Chimovo. And after that it was already renamed Aheloy, after the name of the river on which it stands.
Arriving in Aheloy, travelers are greeted by narrow cozy streets. Tiled red roofs of one- and two-story houses in Aheloy give the city a special charm and create a relaxed atmosphere.
The city has a unique location: on the one hand it is surrounded by Stara Planina Mountain, and on the other - the Black Sea. Thanks to this, the climate here is very mild and comfortable. The river of the same name gives a special charm to the city. You can often meet fishermen on its shores.
In the very center of the city there is a beautiful park with deciduous and coniferous trees. It is very nice to take a walk in search of coolness on a summer day or have a small picnic in nature. The outskirts of the city are greeted with beautiful fruit orchards, behind which vineyards begin.
The sandy beaches of Aheloy stretch for several kilometers. Closer to Pomorie Lake, the sand begins to acquire a darker shade due to iron saturation.
