Aheloy is a hidden haven of comfort and tranquility on the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria. The town is surrounded by lush green parks, and a river flowing through it empties into the sea. There are no crowds of tourists here, and the infrastructure is still developing.
History of the Town
The first settlement appeared on the site of present-day Aheloy during the Roman Empire. The ancient Romans founded a fortress called Chim here. They were later succeeded by the Greeks, who expanded the settlement and named the area Chimos. In the 20th century, it bore the Bulgarian name Chimovo.
The town was named Aheloy only in 1960, after the river on whose bank it is located.
Features of Rest in Aheloy
When traveling to Aheloy, travelers primarily seek peaceful and relaxed rest. Families with children often come here. The quiet and calming atmosphere, pristine sea, and favorable climate contribute not only to moral but also physical well-being.
However, if travelers still want entertainment, they can visit nearby Nessebar, Pomorie, and Sunny Beach. The bus transportation between cities is very well-developed in Bulgaria.
Climate
The ideal location of Aheloy, between the Black Sea and the Stara Planina mountain, results in a mild winter and not too hot summer.
The air temperature here in summer does not exceed +30°C, and in winter it does not drop below +4°C. The water in the summer months warms up to +20 +26°C.
Beaches
Sandy beaches stretch along the entire coast of Aheloy, and the sea here is crystal clear. If you move towards Pomorie, the sand will gradually darken. This is typical for the Pomorie region, where the sand is richer in iron and is considered healing for certain diseases.
On the coast, you can occasionally find equipped beaches with the possibility to rent a sunbed. They are located near hotels.
However, Aheloy is mainly known for its wild and spacious beaches with few tourists. The unique beach located between Aheloy and Pomorie deserves special attention. It is almost always empty, and the surrounding landscapes are breathtaking.
Where to Stay
Aheloy is still in the early stages of becoming a tourist center, and new hotels are actively being built here. However, there are still options to choose from.
Camping
On the outskirts of Aheloy, closer to Pomorie, lovers of "wild" rest can stay. There is an excellent place for camping. Considering the proximity to Pomorie Lake, tourists often indulge in healing mud baths.
Hotels
Currently, Aheloy does not boast a wide selection of hotels. However, travelers can choose from hotels, guesthouses, or apartments.
Some tourists prefer to stay in balneological sanatoriums located in the city.
