Cairo International Airport is located 24 kilometers from the city. Its passenger traffic is 22 million people per year. Cairo's air terminal is one of the largest in Africa.
How to get to the city center
From Cairo Airport to the city center, you can take a bus, book a shuttle, take a cab, or rent a car. By car, you can reach the city in half an hour.
Public Transportation
There are buses from the airport terminal to Cairo. They are quite comfortable, equipped with air conditioning and soft seats. Transportation runs regularly.
Bus
The bus stop is located near the exit of the first terminal (on the square). There are several routes running from the airport:
-
356 (takes you to Midan Ramses, Abdel Munim Riyadh bus station, or the business part of the city - Midan Tahrir). Stops at the second terminal. It runs from 07:00 to 23:00.
-
400 (the route is the same as #356. It takes longer and is not as comfortable, but it is cheaper). The buses run around the clock.
-
948 (heads north of Cairo to Midan Atab). It runs around the clock.
Trip time: 35 minutes on bus #356 and 45 minutes on other routes.
Fare: 2 LE. You can buy a ticket from the driver.
Transfer
This is a very convenient way to get to the city. You'll be met at the airport with name plates, and you'll know the cost in advance. You can book a transfer on the KiwiTaxi website.
Cost: from 490 LE for two passengers.
Taxi
The cab stand is located near the terminal exit. Several classes of cabs can be seen throughout the airport: black and white, white and yellow.
-
The black and white colored cars stand near the arrivals hall. They are cheap, but very uncomfortable - no air conditioning and no padded seats. Also, you'll be traveling without a meter, so it's best to agree on the price at the beginning.
-
The white-colored cars have a meter and a price list. The fare cannot be higher than the top figure on the price list.
-
Yellow cars are the most comfortable. They are new, equipped with air conditioning.
Cost: from 60 to 120 LE depending on the class of car.
Important! For safety reasons and given that cab drivers in Cairo like to cheat tourists, it is best to pay the fare by getting out of the car and sitting next to the driver.
Renting a car
If you plan to get around Cairo a lot, rent a car. Car rental desks are located throughout the airport. It's best to book in advance online (e.g., rentalcars) - there's more choice of cars and the cost is lower.
Cost: from 200 LE per day.
