Among the traditional places of tourist pilgrimage is the Vallindras distillery in the village of Halki. Here the traditional Naxos liqueur kithron is prepared. Tourists are guided through the distillery, where they can watch the process of preparation and then buy a few bottles of this drink as a souvenir.

Tips for tourists

In summer you can visit the Vallindras distillery from 10:00 to 23:00. In the fall, the visiting time is reduced to 18:00.

Souvenirs and groceries are best bought at the market in Chora, where prices are relatively low and the products are always fresh.

On Naxos you can buy the famous Greek thyme honey.

The island of Naxos, like most of Greece, is full of attractions. If you take a tour around the island, you can visit ancient temples, medieval castles and just unique places that introduce you to the Greek culture. Portar's Gate

The remains of the marble gate, once part of the unfinished temple of Apollo, are located in the port of Chora.

Bazeos Castle

Originally built in the 17th century, the castle was a monastery, but in the 19th century it was bought and rebuilt by the Bazeos family.

The fortress is built on a hill above the town of Chora, with the houses of Venetian aristocrats inside.

The distillery in the village of Halki, where the traditional Naxos liqueur kithron is made according to ancient recipes, is open to the public.

The best hotels in Naxos

Hotels on Naxos are many, but you will not find huge five- and four-star complexes here yet. But locals often rent rooms and houses at a relatively low price. In a three-star hotel Xenia Hotel you can stay for 50 EUR per night. In hotels with two stars, such as Hotel Zeus, the average price for a room for two people is 25 EUR per night. Naxos Airport is located four kilometers from the town of Chora. But, as it only accepts domestic flights, it will be easier to reach via Athens-Eleftherios Venizelos Airport. The modern airport building is located 35 kilometersfrom Athens.

Naxos airport transfers

The easiest way to get to Naxos from Athens is by ferry, departing from one of Athens ports - Piraeus, Rafina or Lavrion. A ferry ticket will cost about 26 EUR, a catamaran ticket about 60 EUR. You can take a bus to Athens from the airport for 5 EUR.

Public transportation on Naxos

Buses run between the towns of Naxos as public transportation. There are also cabs, in most cases you can catch them just on the street. Naxos is connected to the Greek mainland and neighboring islands by ferries and catamarans.
