Everyone must fill in a customs declaration upon entry. Without a mandatory declaration on the territory of Hungary, you can carry a sum of money in the amount of 4,000 EUR.
The list of what is prohibited to bring into and take out of Hungary includes: canned food, milk chocolate candies, meat and dairy products, explosives, weapons, narcotics and psychotropic substances, and poisons.
It should also be taken into account that all goods in Hungary are subject to tax, which is 27% of the purchase price. This tax can be refunded at the airport, but only if your purchases exceed 50,000 HUF. This is called a Tax Free transaction.
After paying Tax Free, you have to pay a commission of 5% of the refund amount. You can pay Tax Free at Budapest Airport at Terminals 1 and 2, as well as at Keleti River Station and the International River Port in Budapest.
