Laos Customs

Laos has fairly normal customs regulations for eastern countries without any complications.

What you can take into Laos by airplane is a traditional set of personal items, up to 200 cigarettes, 50 cigars, 250 grams of tobacco.

You can even bring in up to 500g of personal jewelry and ornaments. Import and export of foreign currency is not limited, only the amount over 2000 USD in cash or checks must be declared. You can safely bring any non-prohibited items for personal use.

The things that are prohibited to bring into Laos include:

• Weapons, explosives, poisonous and flammable substances
• Narcotic substances and the means for their manufacture

The first thing that is prohibited to take out of Laos is local currency. You can't take away art and antiquities if they are the country's heritage, so be sure to take receipts with you when buying souvenirs, in case their origin is not obvious. Buddha images should not be taken away, except as souvenirs.

It is advisable to declare all photo equipment, video equipment, computer equipment that you bring. Do not take out of the country wild animals, their bones, horns, feathers. If you are importing or exporting pets and birds, a veterinary certificate is required.

How much alcohol can I bring into Laos? Up to two liters of any alcohol, sometimes a format such as 1 bottle of spirits or 2 bottles of wine is considered. How much alcohol you can take out of Laos depends on the customs regulations of the country you are traveling to.
