Paris, I Love You (2006)

Directors: Alfonso Cuaron, Gus Van Sant, Ethan Coen, Joel Coen and others

Starring: Natalie Portman, Elijah Wood, Olga Kurylenko, Steve Buscemi, Juliette Binoche, etc.

IMDb: 7,3

The first position in our list is deservedly taken by the movie, which by its very name confesses its love for Paris. It consists of 18 novellas from different directors, named after the neighborhoods of the city where they were filmed. The main task of the directors was to tell their love story within a limited five-minute time frame. It turned out so well, it must be said, that the presented format of the film-almanac was immediately taken up by others wishing to sing about their small homeland - so the films "New York, I Love You", "Havana, I Love You" and others appeared.

Locations:

  • Père-Lachaise Cemetery (Oscar Wilde's grave);
  • Montmartre (rue de L'Abreuvoir);
  • Tuileries metro station;
  • Parc Monceau (35 Boulevard de Courcelles); Seine Quay

Amélie (2001)

For fans of the cult movie about the unusual girl Amélie, masterfully played by French actress Audrey Tautou, there are even special places in Paris, which they faithfully visit. It is difficult to make a mistake: "House of Amelie" is generously pasted with posters and clippings dedicated to the film, at its corner is the same vegetable shop, where the heroine ran her hand into a bag of beans, and in the cafe "Three Mills", where she worked, now invariably a lot of visitors who want to feel the atmosphere of one of the favorite films of the French.

By the way to everyone who is planning a trip to Paris, we advise to pay attention to the route around Paris in the footsteps of Amelie

Midnight in Paris (2011)

IMDb: 7.7

How do you like the idea of seeing Monet, Degas, Fitzgerald and Hemingway, as well as Salvador Dali in Paris, all in a single Woody Allen movie? If this combination intrigues you (and how could it not?), we highly recommend "Midnight in Paris". All the other ingredients of "classic Allen" like beautiful scenery, a simple romantic story, thoughtful dialogues, philosophical undertones and light humor are also included:)

Angel-A (2006)

Director: Luc Besson

Starring: Jamel Debbouze, Rieu Rasmussen

IMDb: 7.1

But Luc Besson in his time after a long creative pause, on the contrary, gave out something completely uncharacteristic for him. This near-art house black-and-white movie may not have met the expectations of the fans of the French maestro's work. Nevertheless, this sometimes sad, sometimes instructive story is definitely able to arouse emotions in the viewer. It is also worth noting that the background for the meeting of a long-legged angel and a clumsy underdog it is difficult to imagine any other city but the inimitable Paris.

Locations:

  • Eiffel Tower, Alexandre III Bridge;
  • Hotel Le Meurice (228 Rue de Rivoli)

Before Sunset (2004)

Directed by: Richard Linklater

Starring Ethan Hawke, Julie Delpy

IMDb: 8.1

The story of this romantic trilogy begins in another European city - Vienna ("Before Sunrise" (1995). It was there, according to the plot, that the fateful meeting of the two protagonists took place - the American Jesse and the Frenchwoman Celine. As well as the previous movie, "Before Sunset" is a movie walk (this time in Paris) and movie dialog - incredibly entertaining and vital. Recommended for anyone who loves smart, unhurried movies and... Paris.

Places: Shakespeare & Company bookstore (37 Rue de la Bûcherie); Le Pure Café (14, rue Jean Macé); rue Saint Julien le Pauvre; entrance to Promenade Plantée, avenue Daumesnil; Celine's apartment (Court de l'Étoile d'Or); boat ride (Quai de la Tournelle 15).

1+1 (2011)

Directors: Olivier Nakache, Eric Toledano

Starring: François Cluzet, Omar Sy

IMDb: 8.6

Based on a true story, this movie became a real sensation not only in French but also in world cinema. The story of a paralyzed millionaire and his "nurse", a rough guy who breathes life into the rich man, immediately won the hearts of international critics and mass audiences. At the request of the prototype of the protagonist, this essentially dramatic story was turned into an energetic and good comedy.

  • the interiors and balcony of Philippe's house (85, rue de Grenelle);

The Dreamers (2003)

Bernardo Bertolucci's legendary movie. The story of "The Dreamers" for the most part unfolds within the confines of a single Parisian apartment turned into a small chamber world for lovers when the student riots of 1968 begin outside the windows. The lead female role was given to then debutante and future Bond girl Eva Green.

The Science of Sleep (2006)

Director: Michel Gondry

Starring: Charlotte Gainsbourg, Gael Garcia Bernal

IMDb: 7.3

"Close your eyes. Open your heart" - urges the slogan of this movie. Another work about dreams and dreamers is the fantasy "The Science of Sleep" from "Eternal Sunshine of the Pure Mind" creator Michel Gondry. In this notable work of his a lot of things mixed up: characters of different nationalities speak different languages, reality is confused with dreams, and animation - with live footage. At the same time, the director claims that this cinematic "vinaigrette" is autobiographical.

Locations: Stéphane's apartment (64 Rue de Clignancourt)

Paris (2008)

Director: Cédric Klapisch

Starring Juliette Binoche, Romain Duris, Mélanie Laurent, François Cluzet

IMDb: 6.9

This melodrama, which manages to gather quite a few famous French actors in its cast, also consists of many diverse stories. The main idea of the film is to show the underside of fashionable, romantic and glittering Paris as it is seen by travelers. Its characters are residents of the French capital who live in it every day, rejoice and grieve, fall in love and get disappointed, as well as face difficult life situations and sometimes come to both self-love and hate Paris.

Moulin Rouge (2001)

Directed by: Baz Luhrmann

Starring: Ewan McGregor, Nicole Kidman, Richard Roxberg, Jim Broadbent

IMDb: 7.6

This seemingly simple story did a great thing for world cinema - it revitalized the genre of the film musical. Incredible, bright, talented mix of burlesque, cabaret, modern pop culture and almost Indian romanticism actually won millions of hearts! And although all the movie locations were recreated in studio pavilions, "Moulin Rouge" helps to plunge into the atmosphere of classic Paris, when it was just beginning to earn its reputation as a "mecca for lovers".

Locations:

  • Moulin Rouge (82 Boulevard de Clichy);
  • Sacré-Coeur Basilica (35 Rue du Chevalier de la Barre);
  • Eiffel Tower
