How to travel to Spain from Ukraine cheaply: the most favorable routes

A lot depends on your starting point of travel. From different cities of Ukraine you can choose different airports of neighboring countries. It also matters which city in Spain you are traveling to. Depending on this, you need to determine the place of departure.

But that's not all - you also need to analyze the routes, how to get to the airports from which the flights you need, namely how much money and time they will take. Time should also be taken into account, because during the waiting time you need somewhere to rest and eat - and this is an additional cost, so the shorter the total travel time, the less the cost will be.

The cheapest and proven ways to get to Spain

Through Hungary

First you need to get to Mukachevo to change trains to Budapest:

• from Kyiv - train #81 (Kyiv 18:29, Mukachevo 09:15);
• from Zaporizhzhia and Dnipro - train #4 (Zaporizhzhia 16:48, Dnipro 19:10, Mukachevo 14:15);
• from Odesa - train #38 (Odesa 14:58, Mukachevo 08:01);
• from Kharkiv - train #17 (Kharkiv 14:07, Mukachevo 09:34) or train #45 (Kharkiv 13:43, Mukachevo 13:23).

The cost of the ticket is from 800 to 1400 UAH, you can buy tickets in the app "Ukrzaliznytsia" or at the station ticket office.

Two direct trains depart daily from Mukachevo to Budapest:

• #33 "Latorica" Mukachevo - Budapest.
• Departure from Mukachevo at 12:30, arrival at Budapest-Nyugati station at 18:37;
• #31 "Latorica" Mukachevo - Budapest.

• Departure from Mukachevo at 16:30, Budapest-Nyugati at 22:37.

The cost of the ticket is about 800 hryvnia, you can buy a ticket only on the spot at the ticket office at the station. The train "Latorica" leaves from the station "Zapadnaya", which is located 500m from the station Mukachevo - keep this in mind to not miss the train.

Since the train arrives in the evening and there are no evening flights to Spain, you will have to spend the night in Budapest - wait a few hours for the plane at the airport, most flights to Spain are in the early morning.

You can get to the airport by bus. From the city center (from the stop "Deak Ferenc ter M") every 20 minutes around the clock to the airport runs bus number 100 - the fare is 1580 forints (about 3.5 euros).

What are the flights from Budapest?

The cheapest flight is to Barcelona from €29 one way, slightly more expensive to Costa del Asaar, Valencia, Alicante and Palma de Mallorca from €44, even more expensive to Malaga, Madrid and Tenerife from €70 one way. Of course, if you buy tickets in advance.

In Spain it is possible to get to the required city by train for free if you have come to seek asylum and you need to get to your place of residence. To do this, you need to fill in an application form at the train station, show the tickets you have just arrived and ask for free tickets at the ticket office.

Travel time such a route will take from 38 hours and will cost from 3500 UAH, depending on the city of the beginning of the trip and the final stop.

Through Poland

The most popular route through Poland is to take a train or bus to Warsaw, but it is not the cheapest option. It is faster and more profitable to get there through Krakow.

First you need to get to Peremyshl to make a change to the train to Krakow. Ukrzaliznytsia operates several trains in this direction:

• train Kyiv - Peremyshl goes three times a day: train #705 (departure at 20:10, arrival 04:57), #89 (Kyiv 23:00, Peremyshl 11:17), #53 (Kyiv 19:45, Peremyshl 06:23), #715 (Kyiv 11:01, Peremyshl 20:23);
• from Odesa - by train No. 36 (Odesa 14:59, Peremyshl 06:23);
• from Zaporizhzhya and Dnipro - train No. 32 (Zaporizhzhya 20:49, Dnipro 22:26, Peremyshl 15:21);
• from Kharkiv - by train #73 (Kharkiv 13:36, Peremyshl 11:17).

The cost of the ticket is from 800 to 1800 hryvnias, you can buy tickets at the station ticket office.

Every day from Peremyshl to Krakow there are suburban trains: the first one at 4:25, the last one at 18:54. Travel time is about 3 hours. The ticket costs from 50 to 80 zlotys (about 500-700 hryvnia).

You can get to the airport by bus. The bus station is located at 18 Bosacka Street, which is a 10-minute walk from the station; tickets must be bought no later than 15 minutes before the bus departure at the ticket offices, operating from 06:00 to 21:00. It takes half an hour to get to the airport.

Which flights fly from Krakow?

The cheapest tickets are to Barcelona, Palma, Girona, Malaga and Seville - from 34 euros. More expensive are tickets to Alicante, Valencia and Madryn - from 68 euros, and to Tenerife - from 106 euros in summer.

In total, the travel time will take less than a day and will cost from 3500 UAH, depending on the starting city and the final stop.

Through Moldova (Romanian airport Iasi)

WizzAir has canceled all flights to Moldova due to airspace hazards, so the nearest airport is in Romanian Iasi on the border with Moldova.

How to get there:

1. Odd-numbered days train #351 from Kyiv to Chisinau, arriving at 7:53 at Ungheni station in Moldova, near the border with Romania. The cost of the ticket is 1630 UAH, you can buy it in the application of Ukrzaliznytsia or in the ticket office of the station.
2. After passing the customs at the station Ungheni we transfer to the train № 821 Chisinau - Iasi - Sokola. It leaves Ungheni every day at 9:51, and at 11:13 arrives at Iasi-Sokola station.
3. There each train is met by buses that will take you to the city center or Iasi International Airport.

The second way is to get to Chisinau by bus from Kyiv. There is one at 22:00 (arriving in Chisinau at 10:55), one at 14:30 (arriving at 00:15) and one at 16:30 (arriving at 05:30).

Every day there is a train Chisinau - Iasi, which departs at 6:40 and arrives in Iasi at 11:13. The cost of a ticket is 1200-1500 UAH.

What are the flights from Iasi?

There are cheap flights from Iasi to Barcelona and Madrid starting from 58 euros.

In general, the travel time will take about 20 hours and will cost from 4000 UAH, depending on the city of the trip start and final stop.

What are the flights to Spain from other cities of neighboring countries?

Warsaw, Poland: there are favorable tickets to Barcelona, Madrid, Palma, Malaga, Seville and Bilbao - from 38 euros, more expensive to Alicante, Valencia and Tenerife from 71 euros.

Other Polish cities: bargain tickets to Barcelona, Malaga, Seville, Madrid, Girona, Palma, Ibiza, Castellon de la Plana and Bilbao are available from Katowice, Gdansk and Wroclaw - from 34 euros. Somewhat more expensive is the possibility to fly to Alicante, Valencia and Tenerife - from 61 euros.

Bucharest, Romania: bargain tickets are available to Barcelona, Madrid, Palma, Seville, Santander, Zaragoza and Castellon de la Plana - from 38 euros. To Alicante, Valencia and Malaga, prices start from 58 euros.

Other Romanian cities: from Craiova there are cheap flights to Barcelona and Madrid - from 26 euros one way - this is the cheapest flight option, but Craiova is quite far from Ukraine.

Vienna, Austria: cheap tickets are available to Barcelona, Palma, Ibiza, Bilbao, Valencia, Malaga - from 34 euros, there are also flights to Madrid, Alicante, Santander, Tenerife and Fuerteventura - from 81 euros one way in summer.
