Virtually all of Sri Lanka is bordered by the Bay of Bengal, a sea that connects to the Indian Ocean.
The bay is situated within the tropical and subtropical zones, resulting in surface water temperatures in the Bay of Bengal reaching as high as +29°C. Throughout the year, the bay's temperature remains relatively stable, with fluctuations typically around 3-5 degrees. Despite this favorable temperature, when venturing into deeper waters, such as while diving, the water can feel quite cold.
Waves in the Bay of Bengal are primarily observed during the rainy season when strong winds create larger waves in the resort.
The tides in the Bay of Bengal are generally minimal, almost imperceptible. During high tides, water levels may rise by only 10-20 meters.
