The place where Morshyn is located is as if created for a spa and healing vacation. From here to the green slopes of the Carpathians is only a short distance. The city is located at an altitude of 340 meters above sea level, so you can not call it high mountainous, but gentle picturesque hills create a sense of security and peace. It is only 82 km to Lviv, and about 100 km to Ivano-Frankivsk. In the vicinity of Morshyn there are many forests and valleys where berries and mushrooms are collected in summer.
The town was founded in the XV century, the first mention of it was in 1482. At that time the small settlement had only 12 households. At that time the population of Morshyn was mainly engaged in the salt industry. They used numerous springs to boil it.
After the owners of the land obtained permission from the Polish Chancellery to create full-fledged salt mines. Over time, the production became less, as it was considered that the local salt was too bitter and was not popular. At that time the territory was leased by two Poles, Peter and Yuri Morshtyn. It is believed that it was from their surname that the town got its name.
The first tourist destination in Morshyn appeared in 1875. At that time the railroad was laid here in the direction of Stryi-Stanislaviv (Ivano-Frankivsk was called that until 1965). The land was owned by the merchant Bonifacius Stiller. It was he who began to turn the town into a resort, following Western examples.
Waters, good climate, nature, all this turned Morshin into a promising health resort. There was a water supply system, premises for vacationers, and the first proven therapeutic springs. In 1878 an institution for the treatment of chest diseases was opened.
