Truskavets is a small but important and famous town in Lviv region. This resort is located in the Ukrainian Carpathians, at an altitude of 400 meters from sea level. The distance between Truskavets and Lviv is 85 km and 9 km from the nearest large city called Drohobych.
There is no exact date of when Truskavets was founded. But the first written mention of the place dates back to 1469.
A lot of archaeologically important finds have been found on this territory. For example, a war chaser, the origin of which dates back to the 4th century AD. This and many other finds may indicate that battles were fought here. Archaeologists suggest that it could have been the Goths together with indigenous tribes on one side and the Roman legion on the other.
Also interesting is the origin of the name of this city. Following the opinions of scientists, there are three versions of the origin of the name Truskavets:
According to the first version, Truskavets is a slightly modified form of the Polish word "truskawka", which means "strawberry". But this version can be quickly refuted because the word itself occurred later than the name of the city, as strawberries appeared in Europe after the 17th century, and the name of the city was mentioned in the 15th century.
Some scientists believe that Truskavets came from the Lithuanian word "druska". In translation, this word means "salt". And this region of the Carpathians was once known for salt-making. In honor of salt also got its name the towns of Staraya Sol, Solets, Solonsko, Jasenica Solnaya and others. Therefore, this version can be considered logical.
The third version of the origin of Truskavets says that it comes from the Slavic name Trushko or Trusko, which has changed over time.
The population of Truskavets is mostly Ukrainians. The most common minorities are Russians and Poles. Almost all residents of Truskavets are Christians, but there are also Protestants.
