Shopping in Barbados

Shopping in Barbados is primarily about buying local souvenirs. As in any territory with an obvious mix of cultures, souvenirs here are quite peculiar. Shopping tour in Barbados can be arranged in the stores of the central cities (Bridgetown, Holetown, Oistins and Spitstone), in the capital there is even a specialized souvenir center: Shop 5, Pelican Craft Centre.

Stores are open Monday through Friday from 8:00-9:00am to 4:00-5:00pm, Saturday from 8:00am-1:00pm. Some supermarkets are open daily from 8:00-18:00 and on Saturdays until 18:00-20:00. Many duty-free stores can be found on the island.

When shopping in Barbados, consider purchasing:

• Ceramics featuring exclusive Caribbean designs
• Metalware, fabrics, paintings, and jewelry adorned with Barbadian symbols
• Rum, a renowned Barbadian specialty and a cherished part of local culture. The most famous brands on the island include Mount Gay and Malibu (natural coconut rum), which typically cost a maximum of $7 USD per bottle.

Barbados does not have a specific sale season, although you may find significant discounts before Christmas. Sales in Barbados stores are primarily geared towards tourists and should be monitored accordingly.
