Basic information about Recife

Locating Recife on a map is quite straightforward. This major port city serves as the capital of the state of Pernambuco. In terms of distance, Recife is approximately 2,300 km from Rio de Janeiro and about 800 km from the nearest resort town, Salvador.

Given that the city extends across both the mainland and several islands, connected by over 50 bridges, it has earned the nickname "Venice of Brazil." Recife was originally founded in 1537 by Portuguese colonizers and was initially known as Pernambuco.

Today, Recife stands as the largest and most significant city along the entire eastern coast of Brazil.
