Public transportation in Costa Rica is represented by shuttles and buses. All of them have their own number and a clear route. The service is quite frequent and uninterrupted. Whichever city you visit in this picturesque country, the cost of public transportation will not exceed 250 CRC.
The peculiarities of public transportation include the fact that, like intercity buses, it has no fixed stations. The starting point of each route can be in the most unexpected parts of the city.
Compared to other Latin American countries, Costa Rica's bus fleet is not just made up of old American school buses. The bulk of it is made up of fairly new vehicles imported from Brazil. They are equipped not only with comfortable seats, but also with air conditioning.
In addition, Costa Rica is almost the only country in Latin America, where they have begun to restore railroads. Tourist trains run only from San Jose to Calvadera, San Pedro and Pavas, but in the near future they will be much more. The San Jose to Calvadera route may seem the most interesting for a tourist, as the train offers picturesque scenery during the journey.
