Climate of Holguin

The climate of Holguin is quite unique, characterized as tropical, which may be unusual for some tourists. While it doesn't have distinct seasons like in some regions, it can be divided into the following periods: the rainy season and the hot or dry season.

Cuba, including Holguin, experiences a trade wind climate that maintains high temperatures throughout the year.

The rainy season in Holguin is similar to other tropical climate destinations. Temperatures rise considerably, and showers often occur suddenly, especially in the evenings. During this season, it can feel quite humid, particularly when the winds are calm. The rainy season typically starts at the end of April and continues until the end of November.

Conversely, the dry season starts in December and extends through to March. During this period, temperatures consistently reach around 30 degrees Celsius, making it an ideal time for a vacation.

Holguin's Vegetation and Animal Life

The animal life in Cuba, including Holguin, is remarkably diverse. This region is home to a wide variety of birds, including the world's smallest bird, the hummingbird. Additionally, you can find numerous lizards and snakes, although there are relatively few mammal species in the area.

The vegetation in Cuba is similar to that of other tropical resorts. Originally, forests covered about 50% of the country's total land area, but colonization led to a significant reduction, leaving only 10% of the land covered by forests. Unfortunately, this decrease resulted in the extinction of many rare plant species. Currently, Cuba boasts over 3,000 different plant species, including numerous tropical fruit-bearing trees and palm trees.
