The city is literally bathed in greenery, as the place where Evian is located is surrounded by trees that are not one hundred years old. Geographically, the resort is located on the southern shore of Lake Geneva, not far from the Savoy Alps.
It is in this place that Evian mineral water, popular among the French and rich people from all over the world, is produced. Its production began at the end of the nineteenth century. However, the resort gained its world fame and popularity in the late eighteenth century. During this period, the healing properties of the local water were discovered on the territory of the town.
At different times, English kings, as well as King Farouk of Egypt and such famous personalities as Frederic Mistral and Marcel Proust vacationed in the resort. The date of Evian's foundation is considered to be 1790, thanks to one private fountain of St. Catherine.
Count Leser, suffering from kidney and liver diseases, praised this water so much that some doctors began to recommend it to their patients. In 1807, special studies were carried out which discovered the therapeutic properties of the water.
The year 1824 is significant for the city because the miraculous spring was officially recognized as therapeutic, and the production of water "Evian" began. A whole balneological resort called Evian-les-Bains grew up nearby.
For the last few centuries, Evian has been famous for its wonderful mineral springs. The indigenous population of Evian is only 10,000 people. The official language on the territory of the city is French. The local currency is EUR.
