Debrecen, one of Hungary's largest cities, is located approximately 220 km east of Budapest. Nestled in a picturesque setting, Debrecen has gained renown as both a significant economic and cultural hub and an outstanding spa resort.
Situated 108 meters above sea level in the Middle Danube Plain, Debrecen holds a special place among Hungarian cities. The city's iconic symbol is the Great Church, an architectural masterpiece in the Neoclassical style with two impressive symmetrical towers.
Although Debrecen was founded back in 1235, it wasn't until the first half of the 19th century that the city began developing its bathing culture. The first bathhouse was constructed in Nagyerda in 1826. Thermal water was discovered in the area in 1929, but it wasn't officially recognized for its therapeutic properties until 1960. The bathing facility was closed until its reopening in 1984, followed by extensive renovations, and it was reintroduced in an updated form in 2003.
