1. Faro, Portugal

It is Faro, among other popular Portuguese resorts, that often attracts residents of neighboring countries who want to spend a relaxing yet exciting vacation. It is somewhat crowded with travelers, but it is still not difficult to find a secluded corner. Being the center and capital of the municipality of the same name, Faro, however, is quite compact and not too densely populated — just over 40 thousand people.

Estoi Palace, Faro

Thanks to a rich history dating back to the pre-Roman period, there are quite a few historical buildings and sights to be found here, even more in the immediate area — no more than half an hour away. Add to this the proximity to the sea and the well-maintained coastline of the Ria Farmosa Bay, and you have the perfect place to settle down and enjoy life.

2. Tralee, Ireland

Everyone who has had the good fortune to travel to Ireland's County Kerry, unanimously assures that these places make you want to spend a happy and carefree old age here. There are many reasons for this, including stunning Irish landscapes, exceptional hospitality of the locals and, let's face it, excellent beer.

The highlights of the region can be seen by driving the famous Ring of Kerry, a popular tourist route that includes the county's main attractions such as Ross Castle and Macross House, the National Park and local lakes, as well as several colorful monasteries. However, the experience would be incomplete without a visit to the county's central town, picturesque Tralee.

In addition to a multitude of cultural and architectural monuments, the town is good for the fact that there is never a dull moment here — every evening local establishments are filled with the sounds of cheerful national songs, to which you should definitely dance. And in summer, the large-scale music festival "Rosa Tralli" is held here.

3. Regensburg, Germany

Calm, only calm — the famous saying could well be the motto of this Bavarian gem. Strolling through the narrow streets of the old town and contemplating its architectural charms, one can fall in love with this place in an instant.

Regensburg was lucky enough to escape the bombing raids of World War II, and therefore has an incredible number of historic buildings preserved in their original form. Situated on the banks of the Danube, it also boasts gorgeous panoramic views that you'll never tire of looking at.

4. Hallstatt, Austria

When it comes to small towns with a leisurely pace of life that are perfect for seniors, Hallstatt is on the list. In winter, this Austrian nook in a secluded, inaccessible area becomes a Disney cartoon come to life, with fluffy snow, children playing and fairytale houses decorated with lights.

The tiny town of Hallstatt is home to no more than a thousand inhabitants, and the lifestyle here is more like a rustic-family lifestyle. It is surrounded by alpine slopes on one side and a lake on the other, where ducks and swans swim even in the bitter cold — what is not a fairy tale?

5. Lovran, Croatia

European retirees have long ago favored Lovran for their vacation getaways, and some have even chosen it for their old age. The main advantage of this resort is its versatility. It is equally good and interesting in both summer and winter seasons. Once the Austrian nobility used to come here for vacation, but today the main public of the resort are families with children and the already mentioned pensioners from all corners of Europe.

The coast of Kvarner Bay is full of excellent beaches, as well as all sorts of spa and wellness centers. And there's plenty to see in the Old Town — for example, the church with Gothic frescoes and the fourteenth-century tower.

6. Koper, Slovenia

This small country has an expectedly tiny coastline, but along it there are several incredibly cozy seaside towns that can offer no less range of services and entertainment than their larger counterparts. Take Koper, for example — despite its modest area and population (just over 24,000 people), it is considered Slovenia's largest seaport.

The town has been under the Greek, Roman and Venetian governments at various times, so its cultural and historical heritage is diverse and fascinating. Its convenient location is also appealing — by sea, by train (there is a train station here) or by the new highway, you can get to Ljubljana or to neighboring Croatia and Italy in no time.

7. Hévíz, Hungary

One of the most famous resorts in Hungary is Hévíz, located by the lake of the same name. In addition to healing waters, the area is famous for its protected forests — all this, together with the mild climate, creates ideal conditions for recovery.

The town is also full of sights: The Cross of St. Andrew the Apostle, the Church of the Holy Spirit and the St. Andrew's Thermal Bath. If you are looking for urban entertainment, you can head to Budapest or Vienna, which are about the same distance away.

8. Antibes, France

Well, who hasn't heard of the famous Antibes? There is a belief that this resort town was created so that everyone could spend their old age in it. And if the gods like this place, then we should certainly take a closer look at it.

There is literally everything a traveler is looking for: beaches, restaurants with local cuisine for every taste and purse, as well as many architectural monuments dating back to the early Middle Ages. The weather in Antibes is pleasant all year round. Even in winter the temperature rarely drops below +8-10°C.

9. Nyon, Switzerland

Switzerland is often presented to travelers as so perfect and deliberately beautiful that you don't even know which side to approach it from. But perhaps it is this fact (plus the high quality of life and security) that has created a reputation that has allowed the country to be ranked among the best places for retirees.

This region is full of small, well-kept towns, one of which is Nyon. Sports fans will immediately remember that this is where UEFA is headquartered. The luxurious Chateau de Chateau Nyon, towering above the city, should also be mentioned. Today it houses two museums.

10. Balchik, Bulgaria

For those wishing to indulge in nostalgic memories in an exceptionally familiar yet new place, Balchik is the perfect choice. This beautiful place was once the vacation destination of choice for prominent politicians, professors, and even earlier, the Romanian Queen herself!

The spiral winding streets of the town descend from the hills straight down to the sea coast. The main local attraction is the Queen Mary Palace and the nearby botanical garden. Prices in cafes and restaurants, despite the resort status of the town, are more than affordable.
