Due to a long-ago accident, college professor Robert Kearns developed serious vision problems. Driving in the rain became a major challenge because of the windshield wipers looming before his eyes. After one such trip, he came up with the idea for a simple invention: the intermittent windshield wiper.
He thought that this unique discovery could be useful to Ford, the largest automobile corporation in the United States. But they rejected his idea, only to incorporate it into the design of new cars years later without his knowledge. Upon learning this, Kearns embarks on a difficult, seemingly hopeless legal battle against the business giant.
The plot of the film is based on a real-life event involving the famous American engineer and inventor Robert Kerns.
