A Little Chaos

Louis the Great decides to move to the suburban residence of Versailles. The court architects and decorators are faced with the difficult task of bringing splendor to the summer palace and planting chic gardens and parks around it. Landscape specialist André Le Nôtre invites the country's best gardeners to showcase their designs. Among them is Sabine de Barra, a headstrong woman with a keen sense of beauty.

The film was the last directorial work of British cinema star Alan Rickman.

Agora

This historical drama tells the story of the first female scientist, philosopher, astronomer, and mathematician Hypatia of Alexandria, who lived in the late 4th and early 5th centuries during the conflict between Christians and pagans. When the Christian Church came to power in the Roman Empire, Hypatia was required to renounce her magical sciences and convert to Christianity.

Agora was the name given to market squares and meeting places in ancient Greek settlements.

Coco Before Chanel

Who was Gabrielle Chanel before she became a fashion icon, and where did she get the nickname "Coco"?

In her youth, Gabrielle worked in a clothing store, sewed costumes for artists, and sometimes performed in a small bar. It was here that the future fashion designer met Étienne Balsan, the son of an influential industrialist. He took her to Paris and became her guide to high society. Chanel created her first headdresses and introduced the style of "luxurious simplicity" into fashion.

During filming, the costume designer consulted with fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld.

The Young Victoria

Until recently, Victoria was considered the longest-reigning queen of Great Britain, but our contemporary Elizabeth II managed to surpass her.

The film depicts the early years of Victoria's reign, her confrontation with her mother and advisor John Conroy, and the beginning of her relationship with the Saxon prince and cousin Albert, who later became her husband and father of nine children.

Every dress worn by Emily Blunt, who played Victoria, was insured for fabulous sums. Film academics duly recognized the costume designer's work by awarding her an Oscar.

The King's Speech

When communicating with his family, the Duke of York's stutter did not cause any particular problems. But unexpectedly for everyone, his brother renounces the crown, and now the modest and reserved Albert must take his place, including speaking in public. Becoming George VI, on the recommendation of his wife, he begins to study with Australian speech therapist Lionel Logue and almost completely gets rid of his ailment.

Incidentally, George VI is the father of the current Queen Elizabeth II. The film won four Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Actor (Colin Firth).

The Duchess

The romantic and still naive girl happily agrees, mistaking his feelings for love. However, his goal was more pragmatic—the duke needed an heir.

The Duchess of Devonshire was known as a socialite and fashionista. Her outfits were always unique and insanely expensive. No joke, it took over 36 meters of the finest silk to make one of her dresses. The film won an Oscar for costume design.

A Royal Affair

Denmark, mid-18th century. King Christian VII suffers from mental illness and is mired in debauchery. He cares neither for state affairs nor for his young wife, Caroline Mathilde. Soon, a German doctor named Johann Struensee appears at court.

Exerting a beneficial influence on the king, he initiates a series of important reforms in the country. Conservative enemies use his love affair with the queen to pursue their own interests.

All costumes were designed in collaboration with historians.

Marie Antoinette

The film tells the tragic story of Queen Marie Antoinette of France, from her engagement and marriage to Louis XVI at the age of 15 to the end of her reign.

Her French husband did not love the youngest daughter of Empress Maria Theresa of Austria and openly despised her. The subjects also rejected the stranger. The situation changed with the arrival of new ladies-in-waiting at court.

Gradually, Marie Antoinette gets used to her new life, finding solace in gambling, parties, and buying luxurious dresses. This later turns against her.

The French government allowed the film crew to shoot at the Palace of Versailles. The film won an Oscar for Best Costume Design.
