Qingdao
Qingdao means "green island" in Chinese. And this name fully corresponds to the look of the city. In the center of Qingdao modern skyscrapers rise to the sky, and on the edges of the city high-rises are replaced by small houses and villas drowning in greenery. The city is built on the Jiaodong Peninsula. It slopes down from the foot of the mountain to the Qingdao Bay of the Yellow Sea. The coast of Qingdao is framed by beaches, where the golden sand is mixed with shells.
The city has a complicated history. From 1897 until World War II, it was under German rule. The German rule gave Qingdao a street layout and a brewery. Now beer production and consumption has become an unchanging part of Qingdao's culture. And for tourists, the opportunity to drink beer on the Chinese coast has become an added highlight of the local vacation.
