When traveling to New Zealand by airplane, there are specific regulations regarding what you can and cannot bring into the country. Here are some key points to keep in mind:

  • There are no restrictions on the import of national and foreign currency. However, if you are carrying an amount exceeding 10,000 NZD, you must declare it.
  • You can bring fruits, vegetables, wood products, plants, and seeds, but they are subject to inspection.
  • For citizens over 17 years old, the duty-free allowance includes up to 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars. Personal consumption goods valued at up to NZD 700 are also duty-free.

Items you are not allowed to bring into New Zealand:

  • Illegal drugs and weapons.
  • Bee products.
  • Pet food.
  • Ivory in any form, turtle shell products, bone and tusks of marine animals, horn, and hide.
  • Specific medications, including diuretics, sleeping pills, sedatives, cardiac drugs, tranquilizers, vaccines, and medicines containing musk, unless you have appropriate medical prescriptions.

Items you are not allowed to take out of New Zealand:

  • Protected plant and animal specimens.
  • Products made from leather, bone, bird feathers, coral, and shells.
  • Meat and sausage products are prohibited for both import and export.

Regarding alcohol, New Zealand's regulations are relatively lenient. You can bring up to 4.5 liters of wine or beer or up to 1.125 liters of spirits or pure alcohol. However, the rules for taking alcohol out of New Zealand may depend on your destination and your country's customs laws.
