The main attraction on the map of Albufeira is the Old Town. Many people will associate it with the Orient - indeed, the city has been heavily influenced by Arab culture. Today, Largo Eng Duarte Pacheco square has the atmosphere of a typical southern town, with cafes frying seafood, selling freshly squeezed orange juice and live music.
In the Old Town, be sure to take photos of another Albufeira landmark, the Torre do Relógio (Clock Tower) on Rua Bernardino de Sousa. At the top of the tower (it's topped by an interesting openwork dome), there's an observation deck that offers great views of the city.
"St. Anne's Church". One of the most beautiful local 18th century churches - be sure to go inside to see the unique wooden altar and ancient frescoes. Entrance to the church is free.
Also mark the Municipal Museum of Archaeology on the Albufeira sightseeing map to see the monuments of Albufeira's Roman and Moorish heritage.
Any description of Albufeira attractions will also point out the Castelo de Paderne. These ruins of an ancient castle, located about 10 kilometers from the Old Center, were once the heart of a thriving city! The castle offers panoramic views of the river and the dilapidated aqueduct left here by the ancient Romans.
