Singapore customs procedures are quite convenient. You are allowed to bring any amount of money into the country, but if it exceeds 30,000 SGD, you must complete a customs declaration.
The list of items you can bring into Singapore by airplane includes:
- Cigarettes, up to 200 pieces
- Chocolate and confectionery, up to a maximum of SGD 50
- Drugs for personal use
These rules apply to tourists who have flown into Singapore from Malaysia and have also spent at least 48 hours outside the state.
The list of items that you are not allowed to bring into or out of Singapore includes:
- Chewing gum
- Chewing tobacco
- Fireworks
- Drugs
- Pornographic products
- Lighters in the form of weapons
- Unlicensed materials
- Toys in the form of currency
Regarding alcohol, Singapore's laws allow the import of either 1 liter of spirits, 1 liter of wine, or 1 liter of beer. It is also forbidden to import alcohol labeled as "Singapore duty not paid" into the country. There are no specific regulations for the amount of alcohol you can take out of Singapore under local law.
Singapore also offers a Tax Free system. All goods purchased in the country are subject to a 7% tax, which can be refunded if the purchase amount is at least SGD 100. To claim a tax refund, follow these steps:
- Ask the seller to issue and sign a special tax refund receipt in the store after your purchase.
- At customs, present your purchase, tax refund receipt, passport, and the original receipt.
- A customs officer will then stamp the tax refund receipt, verifying your eligibility for a refund.
