Northern regions of Sri Lanka
Northern Province
The main city of this region of Sri Lanka is Jaffna. The province is alive with fishing and textile production. Sights include the famous Hindu temple of Kandaswamy. It is washed by the Indian Ocean.
North Central Province
This province is landlocked and very few people live here. The main city is Anuradhapura.
Northwestern Province
This area has access to the Indian Ocean, and fishing is quite popular here. But the region is known primarily for its coconut plantations. The main city of the province is Kurunegala.

Central Province
It is in this region that the highest point of the island, Mount Piduruthalagala, is located. Other places of interest are in the towns of Kandy, Matale, Gampola, Gatton, and Nuwara Eliya. These are mainly Buddhist temples and cultural monuments. The province is also home to Ceylon's famous tea plantations.
Eastern Province
This province has the longest coastline in Sri Lanka facing the Bay of Bengal. The coast is riddled with lacunas, the largest of which are Batticaloa, Kokkilai, Upar, and Ulakali.
Sabaragamuwa Province
The province is landlocked to the ocean. The main city of the region is Ratnapura.
Uva province.
A landlocked inland province of Sri Lanka. Attractions of the province are the Dunhinda waterfalls, Daiyaluma (220 meters high), Ravana, Yala, and Gal Oya national parks. The province is also home to the Uva tea plantation.
Western Province
It is in this province, washed by the Indian Ocean, that the de facto capital of the island, Colombo, is situated.
Southern regions of Sri Lanka
Province South
The main source of income for the people of this province is agriculture and fishing.
