Since the first English-speaking tourists started coming to Turkish resorts, more than 20 years have passed. If you come for a vacation to the most popular resort regions in Turkey on the Mediterranean coast, you may not even feel the language barrier. In Antalya, Alanya, and Belek, the main infrastructure is tailored to the needs of English-speaking tourists.
However, in resorts on the Aegean coast such as Bodrum, Marmaris, and Kusadasi, hotel staff are less likely to respond in Russian. Knowing English would be helpful for communication in these areas.
The Turkish language belongs to the group of Turkic languages and is not at all similar to the languages of the Romano-Germanic group. Rare words sound like English, although they are written in Latin letters, so it is convenient to use a Turkish phrasebook with pronunciation.
Knowing even a few phrases in Turkish will help you communicate with the hotel staff and, perhaps, provide a good discount when shopping in Turkey. We have prepared a small Russian-Turkish phrasebook containing the most useful phrases in Turkish for tourists.
