The ski slopes of St. Anton am Arlberg are famous for their considerable altitude difference. It ranges from 1,000 to 2,811 meters.
If you take all the ski slopes in and around St. Anton am Arlberg, there are at least 420 kilometers of slopes, if you include the Warth ski area and the nearby resort of Lech. Around St. Anton:
- Blue pistes - 110 km.
- Red pistes - 138 km.
- Black trails - 30 km.
The trails are regularly updated, checked, added with new ones, so their number changes from time to time.
There is also a small percentage of the most difficult pistes for top-level professionals. The snow cover lasts all winter. From late November to mid-April the snow is thick and fluffy. There are very few really easy slopes here. Easy "blue" slopes are found on the southeastern slopes of Halzig.
The longest ski run is 8.5 km long, with an altitude difference of up to 1350 meters. Most of the ski slopes in St. Anton am Arlberg are designed for intermediate level professionals, and even the easiest slopes are considered "red". There are about 180 km of freeride slopes, 58 km of flat skiing roads and a good toboggan run (2.5 km).
The professional slope is between Mount Gumpberg (2401m) and the St. Anton valley. For confident skiers, there is a long and high run from the summit of Ulmer Hutte (2279 m) to the town of Rauz. Look out for the forests near the Gampen plateau (Gampen, 1850 m). An interesting skiing area lies in the Rendl area (2100 m).
There are 2 funparks with 3 halfpipes in the city area. A small snowpark with halfpipe, jumps and rails on the Rendl mountain, it is directly connected to the city center by a gondola with the same name. This place is located east of St. Anton. You can visit the second Stanton snowpark with all the infrastructure. On Gampen there is a toboggan run (4 km), and there are several slopes nearby in Petnoy am Arlberg (1.5 km), Schnann (200 m), Flirsch (1 km) and Strengen (1 km).
The Karl Schranz black speedway is famous, it leads from the 2320 m mark through Gampen to the city center. From the top station of the Galzigbahn elevator into St. Anton there is piste 2, the Kandahar descent. After the snowfalls, freeriders head for the Valluga Grat ridge (2660m) leading towards St. Anton and the St. Christophe Pass.
There is frequent off-piste skiing in the Rendl and Albona areas.
