The Cayman Islands are geographically divided by the various islands in the archipelago, resulting in seven districts. Five of these districts are located on Grand Cayman, one on Cayman Brac, and one on Little Cayman. The names of these regions in the Cayman Islands often reflect cardinal directions or have historical significance. Within these districts, you'll find a limited number of cities, including the capital, Georgetown, the former capital, Bodden, Savannah, the East End, and the Northside.
Little Cayman Region
Little Cayman is designated as a distinct region, situated 130 kilometers from Grand Cayman. The island's economy is primarily centered around tourism, and it offers pristine natural landscapes featuring classic mangroves and a rich diversity of wildlife. Bird enthusiasts will be delighted by the abundant birdlife, including herons, ducks, eagles, and many other species. Notably, the island is also home to the Bloody Pound National Bird Sanctuary.
Regions of Cayman Brac
This region encompasses the entire island of Cayman Brac, the smallest and most untamed of the archipelago's islands. It boasts dense vegetation with fruit trees, orchids, and cacti, surrounded by pristine coastlines. Cayman Brac is home to several attractions, including the Cayman Brac Museum, the beautiful gardens of Christopher Columbus Park, notable caves like Peter Cave in the northeast and Great Cave on the southeast tip of the island, as well as Bath Cave, Skull Cave, and Rebecca Cave. Additionally, you can explore Community Park and Parrot National Park on this captivating island.
