To locate Sanya, you can find Hainan Island in the South China Sea on a map. Sanya is situated on the southern part of the island along the shores of Sanyawang Bay, in the delta formed by the Pingchuan, Dabo, and Sanya rivers. It has become an internationally recognized tourism hub, although it was established as a resort relatively recently. Prior to the 1990s, the island was a closed-off territory and served as a naval base. However, Hong Kong entrepreneurs, recognizing the island's tourism potential, constructed hotels and tourist complexes here.
Due to its long history as a closed-off territory, the island lacks heavy industries and has preserved its natural vegetation. Consequently, the resort is renowned as one of the greenest locations in all of China and is considered one of the most environmentally friendly destinations worldwide.
