The cuisine of the Adriatic coast differs little from the national cuisine of Croatia. Healthy, nutritious and light food is also honored here. The only thing is that the inhabitants of the Dalmatian archipelago prefer fish dishes to meat ones. No wonder, because in the Adriatic Sea you can catch the real delicacies: more than 350 species of fish are found off the coast of Brac.
Although, on the other hand, the culinary hallmark of the best restaurants and the island of Brac in general is the meat dish. It is vitalec, a grilled sausage of young lamb giblets. In general, the cuisine of the Croatian islands can be characterized as typically Mediterranean.
What is the first thing you should try in the restaurants on the island of Brac? Let's start with the first courses. Order the fish soup ragu brodet. It used to be the food of the poor, but today it has become a gourmet treat. Brodet is prepared as follows: fish and seafood are stewed in an open container, gradually adding various vegetables, spices, olive oil and wine. When almost all the liquid is evaporated - the soup is ready. It is usually served with polenta.
As a main course you can choose fried or baked fish, octopus stewed in white wine, stuffed calamari, lobster with mayonnaise.
But the most exotic delicacy, which is recommended to try by tourists in reviews of restaurants on the island of Brac, is black rijot (analog of Italian risotto) with seafood and cuttlefish ink.
