When you come to Finland, you simply must try the traditional local dishes. First of all, of course, fish dishes: salmon soup with cream (lohikeitteo), fish pies (kalakukko), rainbow trout in its own juice (graavi kirjelohi), baked salmon, herring salad (rossolli), freshwater fish roe with onions and sour cream, and much more.
Various meat dishes are also prepared here: roasted venison with cranberry sauce (poronpaisti), Karelian-style meat in a pot (karjalanpaisti), lamb stewed in wooden dishes (särä).
Also worth trying are the Lappish cloudberry cheese (available as a souvenir at any supermarket), the creamy dessert mämmi, yeast rolls (pulla) and original sours.
Winter is considered the season of pancakes - they are usually eaten here with caviar, goat cheese and pickled onions. There are also extreme fillings, such as pickled cucumbers with honey and sour cream.
