Airports in South Korea

South Korea is home to 108 airports, which also includes smaller airfields and heliports. 16 of the country's main airports have scheduled flights, and only 5 of them are international. These are Incheon, Jeju, Daegu, Gimpo, and Cheongju. Most international flights are served by Incheon, and all other airports operate Asian destinations.

Seoul, the capital of the country, has two large airports: Incheon and Gimpo. The latter serves only domestic flights. Both airports can be reached directly from the center of Seoul by subway. But it is faster to get to Incheon by train than by subway with two or three connections.

The largest airports in South Korea

  • Busan (Gimhae). Serves military and civil aviation flights. Airplanes depart from the airport to cities in South Korea and the Asia-Pacific region. Busan works with approximately forty air carriers. Passenger traffic increases every year and has already exceeded 7 million people a year.
  • Incheon. The largest airport in the country and one of the largest in the world. It is located 70 kilometers from Seoul, the capital of South Korea. In 2005, international experts recognized Incheon as the best airport. In 2007, its passenger traffic became one of the largest on the planet. Incheon is built on two connected islands. On the map it looks more like a full-fledged city than an airport.
