General information about Avoriaz

The history of Avoriaz dates back to 1964. Previously, the site of today's ski slopes, hotels and restaurants was a deserted plateau where local shepherds grazed their cattle. As soon as Avoriaz was founded, it attracted a lot of attention from experienced skiers and snowboarders from all over the world.

The reason for this was not only the interesting and winding slopes, but also the amazingly beautiful architecture, dominated by wooden buildings made in Art Nouveau style. Each of them blends so harmoniously with the surrounding nature that it may seem as if the buildings were created by nature itself.

In addition, in the place where Avoriaz is located, very strictly monitor the ecology. The locals have almost completely abandoned the usual cars. Tourists get to this snowy paradise with the help of snowmobiles, horse-drawn sleighs or dogs. This feature allows all vacationers to breathe amazing purity of frosty air with admixtures of pine needles.
