Restaurants and cafes in Marseille

We'll tell you the best places to stay in Marseille.

Where to taste an authentic bouillabaisse? At one of Marseille's best restaurants, Chez Michel in the 7th arrondissement. The waiter will bring a basket with five kinds of fresh fish to your table so that you could see for yourself the quality of the main ingredients of the soup. But you will have to pay 70-80 EUR for this pleasure (and this is only for one soup!).

In their reviews, tourists also recommend trying another signature dish in Marseille’s restaurants — pied-et-paquet, whose main “hero” is lamb stomach. You can taste it, for example, at the Provençal restaurant Aux Mets de Provence (18 quai Rive-Neuve).

Budget restaurants in Marseille can be found in the Le Panier district and on Pavillon Street. At the vegetarian spot Auberge “In”, a set menu costs around 15 EUR. You will also find plenty of pizzerias and small Chinese bistros.

However, restaurant prices at Prado Beach and along the southern promenade of the Old Port are unjustifiably high.

We also recommend visiting one of Marseille’s best cafés — La Part des Anges in the 1st arrondissement. It offers an excellent wine list complemented by a menu featuring a refined delicacy — Marseille-style stuffed artichokes.

Don’t miss the Berber tea house Le Shambhala, where you can relax after a city walk on soft cushions. Original dishes are also served at Café Milano — duck with mango salad costs about 18–25 EUR.

The most affordable prices can be found in Marseille’s street cafés. You can have a snack with a sandwich and potato chips for 5–8 EUR.
