Porto Vecchio is nestled in the green hills of the Corsican coast. The city looks out over the clear waters of the bay, along which its beaches stretch.
The golden sand, clear water and trees lining the sandy strip create a stunning atmosphere. Most of the beaches can be reached on foot from the town, but Palombaj beach is some distance away. But tourists who get here will not miss, because it is one of the most beautiful beaches of Porto Vecchio.
Above Porto Vecchio rises a fortress, erected here in the XVI century to protect against attacks from the sea. Now the fortress has turned into a picturesque monument of the past. The streets of the historic center of Porto Vecchio also reek of antiquity. Walking through them, imbued with the spirit of the past, is simply wonderful.
Porto Vecchio is quite small, but a lot of greenery, houses descending from the hills and, most importantly, the inexpressible Corsican flavor make it attractive to travelers. As a resort Porto Vecchio began to develop since the middle of XX century, when during the Second World War here completely defeated malaria. The draining of the marshes spared the town from the scourge that had haunted it for centuries. Since then it has been developing as a tourist center, the number of hotels is growing and the infrastructure of the resort is improving.
