10 things to do in Germany

Every country in the world has something that every traveler must try if he wants to get to know it well. Today tripmydream will tell you what you can (and should) do in Germany.

1. Try the national cuisine

.
German Currywurst

The best way to get to know Germany is with the most accessible, incredibly tasty national cuisine. For starters, be sure to try the world-famous sausages and frankfurters, which, incidentally, vary from region to region: Currywurst, Bavarian Weisswurst with sweet mustard, ham Schinkenwurst and, of course, Leberkäse - square sausage slices fried to a crispy crust and seasoned with mustard.

The Germans are also proud of their soups. The most popular are the potato soup, the pancake soup (Pfannkuchensuppe), the meat ragout soup Eintopf, the beer soup Biersuppe (love of the national drink) and the tomato puree soup Tomatensuppe.

And where to go without dessert? We should end our meal on a sweet note: this is a delicious Black Forest cake (Schwarzwald torte), Lebkuchen gingerbread in Nuremberg or apple strudel with potato pie. The main thing is not to be confused by the variety!

2. Tasting German beer

To visit a country whose brewing tradition goes back to the grey period and not try the famous foamy drink? Impossible! So what do we do? That's right, we go to a beer festival. But not at the promoted Oktoberfest, and to his less "star" analogues, such as the August beer festival in Straubing (Bavaria). Here you not only get the traditional atmosphere of the national festival, but also can enjoy the best local beer in the appropriate atmosphere.

3. Visit the Christmas Fair

.
Berlin Christmas Fair

If you're visiting Germany in winter, it's worth timing your trip to the Christmas holidays to visit the fabulously beautiful fairs and markets. The most colorful of these are the fairs in Nuremberg and Dresden (the latter has been held since 1433). Festive illuminations, costume shows, a beautiful Christmas tree, mulled wine and gingerbread - what could not be the best Christmas ever?

4. Take a tour of the castles

.
Neuschwanstein Castle

It's not just sausages and beer that Germany is famous for. Architecture is another treasure of this country, and the jewel of the treasure is undoubtedly its castles. Look for the most beautiful ones in the Bavarian Alps: the famous Neuschwanstein, Hohenschwangau, Linderhof Palace and Herrenkimsee. And also Dresden Castle, the Old Castle in Stuttgart, the majestic Heidelberg, the famous Lahneck and Marksburg and the castle-fortress Hohenzollern.

5. Fall in love with the nature of Germany

.
Saxon Switzerland Park

You can appreciate the beauty of German nature if you go to the national park "Saxon Switzerland": wooded slopes, waterfalls, hills and rocky ledges, from where if you climb to the top you can see the Elbe ribbon and simply open breathtaking panoramas.

6. Visit the Berlin Wall

.
Berlin Wall

When in Berlin, take time to visit the Berlin Wall. Of course you can visit a museum with the same name and learn all about the history of this construction, but we advise to walk along the preserved fragments of what once for 28 years divided the city into two opposing camps, and feel the atmosphere of this place for yourself. And while we are there, find an exhibition of graffiti art created by residents of the West Side of Berlin.

7. Walk to France

.
Bridge to France

Yes, yes, that's possible! All you have to do is get to the town of Kehl and find its main attraction - the bridge connecting Germany and France.

8. Visit the Cologne Cathedral

.
Cologne Cathedral, Germany

This majestic Gothic building, which miraculously survived the Second World War, will not leave you indifferent. The astonishingly beautiful building of the cathedral impresses not only by its size (just kidding - the third largest church in the world!), but also by its unique atmosphere of grandeur and serenity.

9. Cheer at the Nürburgring races

.
Nürburgring races

Even if you are far from motorsports, the Nürburgring is worth a visit if only for its spectacle. Adrenaline is guaranteed! Amateur drivers from all over Europe come here to drive faster than the cherished 6 minutes and 47 seconds. Who knows, maybe you'll be the one to see a new record?

10. Visit the museums of Berlin

.
Pergamon Museum

Berlin is the capital precisely because it encompasses the very best from all corners of the country. Therefore, the cultural program here will be incredibly rich: the Pergamon Museum, the Kulturforum, the Berggruen Museum, the Bode Museum, the Neue Nationalgalerie—this is far from a complete list of places where you can enrich your knowledge of art, history, architecture, and much more.
