How to get there

Warsaw's Fryderyk Chopin Airport is only 10 kilometers from the city. Regular buses and trains run from there, so it won't be difficult to get to the tourist center. You can take buses № 148 (to Ursunov and Praha districts), № 175 (to the central train station) and № 188 (to the metro station near the station). And at night there is bus № 32, which also goes to the station.

Every 15 minutes a train leaves the airport and stops at the Central Railway Station. If you are in a hurry, you can also take a cab, but it will cost 70 zlotys.

In 2012, another airport - Modlin - appeared near Warsaw. It serves flights of two major European low-cost carriers: Ryanair and Wizz Air. And if you fly to Poland from Europe, you will most likely land here. The distance to the city is about 40 kilometers. The fastest way to get from Modlin to Warsaw is by bus, which runs from the airport to the Palace of Culture. You can check the fare and timetable on this website.

The city was heavily destroyed during World War II, and many people assume that because of this there is nothing to see in the city. Indeed, the Old Town in Warsaw is a reconstructed post-war building, but the Praga district, which was not hit during the bombing, still retains the spirit of antiquity.

Among the must-see places are the Royal Palace (entrance - 23 PLN), Lazienkowski Palace and the beautiful park near it (entrance to the palace - 22 PLN), the Chopin Museum (entrance - 25 PLN) and the observation deck in the Palace of Culture. You can explore the Old Town by taking a ride in an old-fashioned horse-drawn carriage, which is a more romantic ride than a boring sightseeing tour with a guidebook.

Keep in mind that many museums in Warsaw are not open on Mondays, so it is better to check their schedule on the official websites of the attractions in advance.

Other tips

Experienced travelers advise to avoid banks and money exchangers in Warsaw. The rate and commission in these institutions are extremely unfavorable. We recommend looking for the so-called "Kantor" (the sign in Polish will say Kantor) - this is where the most honest rate without overpayments. The easiest way is to type "kantor Warszawa" directly into the search engine and the map will show you the nearest kantors.

Shopping in Warsaw

Many mass-market brands are represented in Warsaw. Therefore, in your free time from sightseeing we advise you to look in one of the shopping centers. The most popular of them are Arkadia, Blue City, Złote Tarasy.

Souvenirs are easiest to find in small stores in the Old Town - amber products, linen tablecloths and dolls in national costumes.

As it happens, apart from the above mentioned, the most popular souvenirs brought back from Warsaw are vodka "Zubrowka" and honey (miód pitny) - a honey-based drink that has been aged in cellars for years. You can buy a bottle as a souvenir in an ordinary store, but the most delicious are homemade drinks, which can be tasted in many restaurants in the city.
