For example, on January 19 and 20, St. Sebastian, the patron saint of the island, is celebrated with festivals, parades, concerts and exhibitions. At the end of February and the beginning of March Mallorca has a grand carnival preceding Lent. In April, the locals cheer for yachtsmen at the Princess Sofia Trophy regatta, and on the last Sunday in September they celebrate... the Watermelon Festival!
Summer in Mallorca is marked by the San Juan Festival (June 23), when bonfires are lit on the beach and celebrations last until dawn. On June 30, Maracci hosts the San Marçal festival, during which you can buy local handmade ceramics, and on August 24, the islanders celebrate St. Bartholomew's Day with a colorful children's lantern parade.
Local flavor
Mallorca is more than just unique architecture and colorful traditions. Even everyday life on the island is filled with a unique atmosphere of unhurriedness, as the locals know how to enjoy every day! To get into the spirit of Mallorca, visit the local markets, the island's "calling card", where you can find everything from delicious fruits and vegetables to handicrafts and souvenirs.
And be sure to visit at least a couple of local fairs! After all, they are themed, with their own unique features - from region to region. There's a blacksmith fair in Sencelles, an herbal fair in Selva, a ceramics fair in Maratxi, an olive fair in Caimari, a honey fair in Llubí and a wine fair in Consell, as well as a craft fair and a mushroom fair. All in all, you won't be bored!
