If you look at a world map, the tiny country of Monaco would be in the south of Europe. A more detailed map of Monaco will show that the mini-state borders only one country - France. The southeastern part of the Principality is washed by the waters of the Ligurian Sea, which in turn is part of the Mediterranean Sea.
Due to the fact that the Principality is only 2 km2 in size, not everyone knows that the country is considered a separate state. Due to the territories taken from the sea, the area of Monaco has increased by another 40 hectares.
